BROOKINGS — Work has started on the renovation project at the Brookings Skate Park.
According two the city’s Facebook page, the skate park — located near Brookings High School — is undergoing a major expansion and redesign, replacing aging equipment with a modern poured-concrete facility. The grand reopening for the skate park will be in July.
The $300,000 project is within budget and includes better lighting as well, along with a more advanced camera system. According to its website, the American Ramp Co. is partnering with the city to build the new skate park.
According to ARC, local skateboarders and community members played a role in the facility’s development by attending open houses and submitting ideas on the company survey page.
