ELKTON — An Elkton resident is facing a sexual contact without consent charge following an allegation that he inappropriately touched a 63-year-old woman.
Melvin Hernandez Llamas, 37, was arrested and taken to the Brookings County Detention Center, according to a June 10 news release from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on June 3 at 10:11 p.m. when, according to Assistant Sheriff Dave Biteler, the woman approached a neighboring home to discuss loud music.
“The reporting party walked over to a neighbor’s house to talk to them about their music. She made contact with a male individual near the garage of the residence,” Biteler wrote. “During their conversation, the male got closer and then began to touch her inappropriately. She told the male to stop before being able to walk away. She then returned to her residence and reported the incident.”
Llamas has since been transferred into the custody of another agency because of an outstanding warrant and was not on the detention center’s inmate list as of late June 10.
“He was picked up by a Homeland Security transport officer that had an order to transport him to Sioux Falls,” Biteler told The Brookings Register. “We were told the night of his arrest that his identification could not be verified, and that Homeland Security requested that he be held until verification.”
Biteler added that the detention center does not receive any information from federal agencies once a person is transferred.
Llamas’ next court date was set for 9 a.m. on July 6 at the Brookings County Courthouse in front of Judge Bob Pesall.
