FLANDREAU Three area teams took the mat as the Flandreau wrestling team hosted the Flandreau Booster Club Invitational on Saturday.
Madison won the boys invite with a team score of 215 points while Luverne and Viborg-Hurley tied for first place in the girls invite with a total of 65 points.
Boys
DEUBROOK AREA/DEUEL
The Cardinals finished in third place with a team total of 97 points. Deubrook/Deuel also had four wrestlers place at the tournament as Gavin Kloos placed first at 150 pounds, Jaxon Quail placed first at 157 pounds, Ryker Gauger placed second at 126 pounds and Gage Landmark placed fourth at 106 pounds.
Kloos went 2-0 at the tournament pinning Madisons Brayden Gust at 1:09 of a semifinal match and winning a 4-2 decision over Red Rock Centrals Evan Bartholomaus in the championship match.
Quail went 4-0 at the invite including a pinfall victory over Viborg-Hurleys Evan Campbell at 2:49 in the opening round. Quail pinned Wyatt Hardt of Sioux Valley at 3:19 of his quarterfinal match and Madisons Tristin Dorhout at 3:30 of his semifinal match before winning a 4-3 decision over Howards Tate Miller in the championship.
Gauger split his two matches, pinning Flandreaus Gabriel Frias at 4:40 of the semifinals but losing to Madisons Carter Downs by an 11-6 decision in the championship.
Landmark went 2-2 in four matches defeating Viborg-Hurleys Joseph Lee by fall at 2:04 of a first-round consolation match and winning by forfeit over Deuels Bentley Fokken in the consolation semifinals. Landmark lost by fall at 1:05 of a quarterfinal match to Luvernes Brody Kopp and to Madisons Charles Aldanna by fall at 50 seconds of the third-place match.
FLANDREAU
The Fliers finished in fifth place with a team total of 82 points and had six place-winners at the invite.
Zach Pederson won two of his three matches to finish in second place at 120 pounds. Pederson pinned Elk Point-Jeffersons Bode Fennel at 2:28 of a quarterfinal match and won a 4-2 decision over Luvernes Bernie Rock in the semifinals but was pinned by Madisons Wyatt Pickard in the championship match.
Brayden Wiese won two of his three matches to finish in second place at 132 pounds. Weise won by a 10-6 decision over Elk Point-Jeffersons Luke Swatek in the quarterfinals and pinned Jade Wilkens at 3:56 during a semifinal match. Wiese lost to Sioux Valleys Tate Steffensen by a 10-0 major decision in the championship.
Justin Klein won two of three matches to finish in second place at 165 pounds. Klein pinned Luvernes Tucker Remme at 1:05 of a quarterfinal match and pinned Deuels CJ Fitzsimmons in the semifinals. Klein was pinned by Elk Point-Jeffersons Hayes Johnson at 1:49 of the championship match.
Karter Headrick won two of his three matches to finish second at 190 pounds. Headrick pinned Luvernes Adam Ask at 0:32 of a quarterfinal match and Viborg-Hurleys Trevor Ryan at 1:27 of a semifinal match before he was pinned by Howards Weston Remmers at 3:26 in the championship match.
Teague Bergjord finished third at 120 pounds after winning three of his four matches. Bergjord pinned Garretsons Talon Miller in 57 seconds in the quarterfinals but lost by a 15-5 major decision over Madisons Wyatt Pickard in the semifinal. Bergjord responded with a pair of pins, defeating Madisons Cole Downs at 1:50 in the consolation semifinals and Chesters Carter Leibeg at 1:58 of the third-place match.
Gabriel Frias went 1-2 to finish in fourth place at 126 pounds. Friass lone win came in the quarterfinals after winning by forfeit against a Garretson wrestler in the semifinals.
SIOUX VALLEY
The Cossacks finished in eighth place with a total of 62 points. Three Sioux Valley wrestlers placed at the invite with Tate Steffensen placing first at 132 pounds, Owen Vandeweerd placing first at 285 pounds and Wyatt Hardt finishing fourth at 157 pounds.
Steffenson pinned Flandreaus Emisael Bonilla at 1:57 in the first round and advanced via forfeit to the semifinals. Steffenson won a 5-1 decision over Henry Meyer in the semifinals and by a 10-0 major decision over Flandreaus Brayden Wiese in the championship.
Vandeweerd pinned Ruben Chicoine at 5:18 in the first round, Deubrook Area/Deuels Raymond Klein at 2:41 in the semifinals and Luvernes Masyn Akkerman at 3:03 of the championship to take home the heavyweight title.
Hardt was pinned by Deubrook Area/Deuels Jaxon Quail at 3:19 of the quarterfinals before pinning Chesters Arien Stafford at 3:55 of a second-round consolation match and Hayden Landmark at 3:40 of a third-round consolation match. Hardt won an 8-6 decision over Red Rock Centrals Carter Beranek in the consolation semifinals before he was pinned by Madisons Tristen Dorhout in the third-place match.
Girls
SIOUX VALLEY
The Cossacks finished in third place with a total of 42 points.
Summer Guthmiller finished in first place at 126/132 pounds by winning all three of her matches. Guthmiller pinned Wendi Silverthorn at 1:31 of a quarterfinal match, Garretsons Adair Hanisch at 1:03 in the semifinals and Pitsenberger at 3:26 of the championship match.
Citabria Manzanared finished second at 100/107 pounds by winning two of three matches.
Manzanared was pinned by Luvernes Zakada Bradley at 1:39 in the first round but rebounded to pin Canistotas Lola Conn at 2:33 of the second round and Madisons Makayla Schardin at 44 seconds in the third round.
Anna Field finished second at 114/120 pounds by splitting her two matches. Field was pinned by Madisons Capri Johnson at 40 seconds in the first round and pinned teammate Trinty Kurtenbach at 38 seconds in the second round.
Kurtenbach finished in third place at 114/120 pounds after dropping both of her matches.
FLANDREAU
The Fliers finished in sixth place with a total of 18 points.
Julie Pitsenberger went 2-1 at the invite by pinning Garretsons Danika Juhl in the first round and Luvernes Elle Rock at 3:35 of the second round before falling to Sioux Valleys Summer Guthmiller at 3:26 in the championship match.
