MARSHALL, Minn. The Brookings Rangers Bantam B team finished in fourth place as they took part at the Battle at the Baron from Nov. 15 through the 17.
The Rangers went 1-2-1 at the event, picking up a win over Marshall and a tie with Sauk Rapids.
Nov. 15
Apple Valley/Burnsville 7, Brookings 3
The Rangers fell behind 4-0 in the first period before Decon Trumbo scored Brookings first goal of the year unassisted with 12:21 left in the second period.
AVB led 6-1 at the end of the second period before the Rangers scored twice in the third period. Ty Harris scored with assists by Jasper Pitts and Beau Luvaas with 8:45 left in the final period while Landon Schumacher scored a power play goal from Harris.
AVB out-shot Brookings 34-12 in the game. Bob Carroll started at goalie and made 27 saves on 34 shots.
The Rangers had zero penalties while AVB committed three, all in the second period.
Nov. 16
Brookings 5, Marshall 1
The Rangers broke the seal after a scoreless first period when Ty Harris scored with an assist by Landon Schumacher with 14:12 left in the second period. Liam Heibergers goal from Maxx Anderson with 3:39 left in the second period gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead and Brookings broke the game open with three goals in the third period.
Pierson Rohl scored with an assist from Harris with 14:26 left in the third period while Jackson Hahn scored just over a minute later with an assist by Pitts. Pitts scored an unassisted goal with 7:57 left in the third period and Marshall scored a power play goal with 4:05 remaining in the game to cap the scoring.
The Rangers had one penalty in the game while Marshall had two. Isaac Haufschild made 23 saves on 24 shots and Brookings had 30 shots.
Brookings 3, Sauk Rapids 3
Harris provided the Ranger offense with a hat trick beginning with a pair of goals in the first period. Harris scored with an assist by Rohl with 14:25 left in the first period and added an unassisted goal with 8:47 remaining.
The Rangers went into the first and second intermissions tied at 2-2 before Sauk Rapids took the lead early in the third period. Harris salvaged the tie by completing the hat trick with a power play goal from Schumacher with 3:06 left to play.
The Rangers had one penalty in the game while Sauk Rapids had three. Carroll made 11 saves on 14 shots and Brookings had 23 shots on goal.
Nov. 17
Hutchinson 7, Brookings 3
Hutchinson scored early in the third-place game, taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission but broke the game open with five goals in the second period including three on power plays.
Brookings got a pair of goals in the second period to try to keep things close, however, as Pitts scored an unassisted goal with 7:52 remaining and Heiberger scored on an assist from Schumacher with 25 seconds left in the second period.
Harris scored the final goal for the Rangers with assists by Pitts and Heiberger with 8:02 left in the game.
The Rangers had three penalties compared to five for Hutchinson. Haufschild made 14 saves on 19 shots including a save on a penalty shot.
The Rangers had 19 shots on goal.
