First-grade students at Medary Elementary School recently did something not many other people can say they have done they took reading to the pumpkin patch.
The four first-grade classes took several weeks to prepare for their trip to read in the pumpkin patch. They included writing, math, reading and science/social studies in their preparation for the field trip. Finally, they were ready for their reading adventure and loaded the school bus with books in hand, excited to read in the patch.
Sanderson Gardens welcomed us and this idea with open arms and we are so grateful to have them in town for activities like these,” according to the first-grade teachers at Medary. “The students were so excited to see firsthand the place they had been writing, reading, and learning about at school. It was beautiful to see kids excited to read and excited to see such an awesome place in the Brookings community.
