BROOKINGS — The elementary teacher who is facing a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor has been let go by Brookings School District.
According to the personnel report approved in the consent agenda at the Brookings School Board’s April 13 meeting, Alec Johnson was terminated from his position as a teacher at Medary Elementary School.
Johnson was taken into custody on March 11 and booked into Brookings County Detention Center, according to Brookings Police Chief Michael Drake.
BCDC staff told The Brookings Register on March 12 that the former first-grade teacher was released on a personal recognizance bond. His initial court hearing is set for 9 a.m. on April 27.
The BPD said it could not release details about the acts allegedly undertaken by the defendant.
The school district released a statement in March saying that Johnson had been put on administrative leave at that point in time but, now, that decision was changed with his inclusion on the April personnel report.
When contacted by the The Brookings Register on April 23, school district officials said they could not release any details about the case because it is against district policy to comment on personnel issues.
