Elkton-Lake Benton, Flandreau and Oldham-Ramona-Rutland victorious

Elkton-Lake Benton, Flandreau and Oldham-Ramona-Rutland all picked up wins on the gridiron on Friday.

ELB beat Viborg Hurley on the road, Flandreau took care of Baltic at home and ORR won its first game of the season in Rutland. In other action Colman-Egan lost to Canistota in a close affair and Estelline/Hendricks fell to Howard.

Arlington also beat Wilmot and Wolsey-Wessington topped Deubrook Area. No stats were provided for those games.

Elkton-Lake Benton 40, Viborg-Hurley 24

VIBORG In a battle of top-five teams in Class 9AA, the Elks came out on top after holding a 13-point lead at halftime.

No. 3 ranked ELB led 13-6 after the first quarter and then added another six points in the second. The Elks then outscored the No. 5 ranked Cougars 7-6 in the third and took home the victory with a 14-12 advantage in the fourth.

ELB had 273 yards on the ground. Blake De Vries had 18 carries for 110 yards to lead the way. Quarterback Colt Beck had 15 carries for 89 yards and three touchdowns. Tanner Stein had five carries for 43 yards and three scores on the ground.

Beck was 7-of-16 through the air with 171 yards and he threw a touchdown pass to Stein. Stein had four catches for 104 yards. Myles Poindexter had one catch for 39 yards and Savion Stephens had one catch for 20.

Stein, Beck and De Vries led the ELB defense with eight tackles each. Beck also had an interception. Quintin Westley and Tanner Drietz each had six tackles and Eliot Erickson had five.

ELB is now 2-0 and hosts Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy on Friday at 7 p.m.

Flandreau 42, Baltic 12

FLANDREAU The Fliers improved to 2-0 with the 30-point victory over the Bulldogs.

Flandreau had 428 yards of total offense. 240 of those yards came through the air as Paul Parsley was 12-of-20 with two touchdowns. Micah Otto had three catches for 68 yards and Alex Poitra had three catches for 51 yards and a touchdown. Kody Kneebone had one catch for 49 yards and a touchdown. Ben Ballard had 38 yards on two catches.

The Fliers had 188 yards on the ground. Justin Klein led the way with 12 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown. Karter Headrick had four carries for 32 yards and a touchdown. Ballard had four carries for 29 yards and Parsley had five carries for 21 yards and both had one touchdown.

Ballard led the Flier defense with seven tackles. Klein had six tackles. Headrick had 2.5 tackles, one sack and a forced fumble. Kneenbone had an interception.

Flandreau hosts Parker on Friday at 7 p.m.

Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 43, Sunshine Bible Academy 16

RUTLAND The Raiders picked up their first win of the season in dominating fashion. They had 349 total yards of offense.

306 of those yards came on the ground. Brock Eppe led the way with 145 yards on 23 carries. Copper Merager had 23 carries as well and had 135 yards and three touchdowns. Dylan Sievers had six carries for 26 yards and a score.

Merager was 4-of-8 for 43 yards and a touchdown through the air. Brodie Albertson had three catches for 30 yards and Brennon Bicketts lone grab was a 13-yard touchdown.

Albertson had two interceptions, one fumble recovery and two tackles on defense. Merager had an interception and two tackles. Rylen Olson had two fumble recoveries and three tackles. Sievers had one fumble recovery and five tackles. Brayden Hanson had six tackles.

ORR is now 1-1 and plays Sioux Falls Lutheran at home on Friday at 7 p.m.

Canistota 12, Colman-Egan 6

COLMAN The Hawks gave the No. 5 team in Class 9B all they could handle but it wasnt enough in the end.

Canistotas Brady Scott and Levi Schoroerder each had a touchdown on the ground. Hayden Pearson found Jase Mousel for Colman-Egans touchdown.

Pearson was 6-of-15 for 84 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Mousel had four catches for 63 yards. Hayden Pearson had 17 carries for 34 yards on the ground.

Scott had 22 carries for 54 yards for Canistota. He was also 8-of-22 for 116 yards and three interceptions. Easton Miller had six catches for 101 yards. Schroeder had 12 carries for 49 yards.

Colman-Egan is now 0-2 and has a bye this week before playing at Dell Rapids St. Mary on Sept. 13 at 8 p.m.

Howard 35, Estelline/Hendricks 8

ESTELLINE The No. 1 team in Class 9A took care of business on Friday night, beating the Redhawks by four scores.

Regan Schawrtz had the lone score for Estelline/Hendricks as he ran one in from five yards out. Cooper Faehnrich then ran in the two-point conversion for the Redhawks.

Quarterback Carson Reitz was 10-of-15 through the air and had 117 yards. Wyat James had four catches for 66 yards for the Redhawks.

Reitz led Estelline/Hendricks defensively with 10 tackles. Matthew McAninch had nine tackles and Faehnrich and James each had six.

Estelline/Hendricks is now 0-2 and hosts Chester on Friday at 7 p.m.
