High school girls basketball roundup: Elkton-Lake Benton Elks, Estelline/Hendricks Redhawks pick up wins

Elkton Lake Benton defeated Waubay/Summit and Estelline/Hendricks defeated Northwestern Area in this weekends girls basketball action.

Elkton/Lake Benton 44, Waubay/Summit 19

ELKTON The Elks used a strong defensive effort to defeat Waubay/Summit on Friday night.

ELB led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter and went on a 15-2 run in the second quarter to lead 25-8 at halftime. The Elks led 32-14 at the end of the third quarter and put the finishing touches on the win by out-scoring Waubay/Summit 12-5 in the fourth quarter.

Kylie Ramlo scored 21 points with four rebounds, four blocks and a steal for the Elks. Malayna Hemmen had 10 points, four rebounds and two steals and Charlie Thooft had eight points and five rebounds.

Peyton Rumpza had seven points for Waubay/Summit.

The Elks improved to 5-1 on the season and will travel to Dell Rapids St. Mary on Tuesday night.

Estelline/Hendricks 54, Northwestern Area 41

REDFIELD The Redhawks pulled away with a big fourth quarter to defeat Northwestern Area in the Redfield Classic on Saturday morning.

Sadie Johnson led E/H with 16 points, two steals and one assist. Kenzy Beare had 14 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block. Ayla Texley had 11 points and four steals and Brooke Johnson had seven points, two assists and two steals. Claire Dagel had four points and eight rebounds.

Ashley Haven had nine points, 16 rebounds, four blocks, four assists and three steals for Northwestern Area. Tara Blachford had 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and a block. Josie Sparling had nine points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two assists and Sophia Troske scored eight points with two assists.

Estelline/Hendricks shot 33 percent from the floor and 4-for-14 (28.6%) on 3-pointers. E/H shot 12-for-13 (92.3%) on free throws and committed 13 turnovers.

Northwestern Area shot 20 percent from the floor including 9-for-43 (20.9%) on 3-pointers. Northwestern Area made 6-of-13 (46.2%) of free throws, committed 16 turnovers and outrebounded the Redhawks 39-27.
