Dean Hofland was born in 1935 in Veblen, SD to Elmer and Jean Hofland.
He died Sept. 28, 2025.
Dean graduated from Veblen high school and South Dakota State University (SDSU) where he earned a baccalaureate degree in music and a masters degree in school administration. He taught vocal music and band at Elkton, SD before attending the University of South Dakota where he earned a Doctorate in Education.
He began his career at SDSU in the Admissions Office and retired 34 years later as Associate Dean for Student Affairs. He served on the Brookings United Way Board and was a member of Optimists and Kiwanis.
As a member of the Presbyterian church, he served as a Deacon, a member of the Session and choir director. During his time at his winter home in Chandler Arizona he directed the community choral group. On a nice day he would be on the golf course enjoying his golf group in Brookings or AZ.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, daughter Lori (Lance) Guymon of Ft Collins, CO; son Todd (Chaille) Hofland of Brookings, SD; grandchildren Bailey (Austin) Sumner, Nate (Allison) Guymon, Tara (Kyle) Hofland, five great-grandchildren, sister Joanne (Roger) Hill, brother Neal, and sister-in-law Verona Hofland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother Duane and sister-in-law Jeanne. There will be a private family celebration of life.
