BROOKINGS A massive storm front rolled into town just before 8 a.m. Saturday in southern Brookings.
Rain and storms pummeled the area all weekend, with more than 5 inches of rain measured in Brookings and more than 7 inches along with funnel clouds reported near Clear Lake. Despite the large influx of water, none of the area rivers were in flood status on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service, likely owing to the near-drought conditions from earlier this spring.
The forecast for the holiday week is warmer, with increasing chances of rain and thunderstorms as we approach the Fourth of July.
