BROOKINGS — Monthly BEST Awards were handed out at the Brookings School Board meeting on April 13.
Bus driver Jay Jones was given the award for his dedications to his job. Recently Jones submitted a request for an afternoon off. It was his first time off in his nearly seven years of service to the district.
In his letter of recommendation for the award, district director of transportation Nate Loehr wrote, “His dedication to the students, the District, and the Bus Garage team is truly worth recognizing and celebrating. We are very proud of his character and commitment, and we appreciate the example he is setting.”
Also honored were Brookings High School teachers Elizabeth Meester and Kelly Erickson. The teachers were nominated for their efforts in the BHS adapted physical education program. They were instrumental in making BHS’s first swimming showcase a success during Disability Awareness Week.
In her letter of recommendation for the award for Erickson, Mister wrote “This event was open to parents, staff, and students to see firsthand the progress students have made with swimming this school year. The energy in the pool that day was incredible, and the event is one the students, staff, and parents will always remember. The students worked so hard to put in their best effort. It was an event I hope to see in the years to come.”
