Brookings Bandits earn doubleheader split against Renner

BROOKINGS The Brookings Bandits split a legion baseball doubleheader on Tuesday night at Bob Shelden Field.

Brookings fell 5-4 in game one but bounced back with a 5-0 win in game two. The Bandits are now 5-4 and play in a tournament in Sioux Falls this weekend.

Game 1: Renner 5, Brookings 4

Renner jumped out to a 3-0 lead and that was enough of a cushion for them to get the win in game one.

Brody Jacobson led off the game with a single. He then stole second and made his way to third on a Jack Stukel single. Jacobson then scored on a Brogan Moffitt ground out to make it 1-0.

Renner scored two more runs in the top of the third. Stukel led off the inning with a walk and then Moffitt launched one over the left field fence for a two-run home run.

Brookings got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with two runs. Jase Bauer led off with a walk. He advanced to second on a ground out from Tane Friedrich and then advanced to third on a wild pitch before eventually scoring on another wild pitch. Tyson Antonen walked and stole second as well. On the throw to second base on the steal the ball went into center field and got by the center fielder. That allowed Antonen to come all the way home and score and make it 3-2.

Renner got one of those runs back in the top of the fifth. Moffitt reached on an error with one out and then advanced to second on a ground out. He then came home on a Patrick Barnett single to make it 4-2.

Brookings would cut the lead back to one in the bottom of the fifth. Nolan Krogman walked to begin the half inning and then stole second. He would then score on an error to make it 4-3.

However, Renner pushed the lead back to two in the top of the sixth. Owen Lechtenberg walked to start the inning and then scored on a Zach Barr single to make it 5-3.

The Bandits continued the trend of trading runs as they scored a run in the bottom of the sixth. Antonen singled to begin the inning. He advanced to second on a ground out from Wagner and then scored on an error to cut the lead to 5-4.

Cooper Schneider walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh for the Bombers but the next three batters went down one-two-three and the game ended.

Brookings had three hits. Krogman was 1-for-2 and Antonen and Schneider were each 1-for-3.

Antonen got the start on the mound for the Bandits and pitched six innings. He gave up five runs, four earned, on six hits with six strikeouts and five walks. Kysin Reuer pitched the sixth inning and gave up no runs or hits.

Game 2: Brookings 5, Renner 0

Wagner pitched a complete-game shutout in game two. He gave up just two hits and three strikeouts and two walks.

Brookings led 1-0 after the first inning. Tre Christopherson was hit by a pitch and then stole second. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a wild pitch as well to give the Bandits the lead.

The Bandits added another run in third. Korgman singled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Christopherson. He then made his home on a ground out from Schneider to make it 2-0.

Brookings then struck for three runs in the fifth. Joe Kahler singled, Krogman walked and Christopherson singled to load the bases up with one out. Schneider then cleared the bases with a double to make it 5-0.

Brookings had five hits. Schneider was 1-for-3 with four RBIs and Kahler was 1-for-3. Maxten Jensen and Krogman were each 1-for-2.
