Kudos to Kubal
Thank you, John Kubal, for your brave and blunt column GOP needs to show spine on Trump in the Nov. 21 Register! Your warnings about the dangers of Donald Trump returning to the Presidency are not at all overstated. An article the following day (Nov. 22) in The Guardian Openly authoritarian campaign: Trumps threats of revenge fuel alarm supports and amplifies Kubals warnings about the dangers to democracy.
I expressed my concerns about Donald Trumps fascist nature in an essay I wrote in the immediate aftermath of Trumps presidential election defeat of Hillory Clinton in November 2016. Websters dictionary describes fascism as a system of government characterized by dictatorship, belligerent nationalism and racism, militarism, etc.: first instituted in Italy (1922-43). Trumps implicit calls for fascism have, if anything, grown even stronger since then. American voters should reread the history of the rise of fascism in Europe in the 1920s and 1930s Mussolini in Italy, Hitler in Germany, Franco in Spain. Many elites in Germany thought they could control Hitler, for example until they couldnt!
In my adult life, until the last few years, I never thought that we in the U.S. might go down that same path!
