WATERTOWN – Brookings 13U team, the Bombers Maroon, went 1-2 in the Watertown Coke Tournament over the weekend.

Former South Dakota State pitcher Bret Barnett has embarked on a professional playing career, signing a contract Friday with the Billings Mustangs.

BROOKINGS – Two Brookings golf courses, Edgebrook and Brookings Country Club, both suffered damage from the windstorm that swept through eastern South Dakota May 12, but the courses have made great progress cleaning up from the event.

BROOKINGS – With the 2022 Cubs Invitational opening up this evening, Thursday night’s game for Brookings was the first of what will be four straight days of games for the Cubs.

SIOUX FALLS – Playing their fourth and fifth game in three days to open the summer American Legion season the Brookings Post 74 Bandits dropped a pair of games at Sioux Falls Post 15 East on Thursday evening.

HARTFORD – Grant Hieb saved his best for last as his only hit of the game drove home the winning run as the Flandreau Cardinals defeated the Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks, 4-3, in Cornbelt League amateur baseball on Thursday night.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – For Brookings High School grad Ellie Abraham, attending the Naval Academy was a dream come true. A standout track and field athlete at BHS, Abraham was recruited to join Navy’s cross-country and track & field teams. Since joining the team in 2020, Abraham has competed well, culminating in an individual conference title in the steeplechase at the May 6-7 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

BROOKINGS – After scoring three runs in the ninth to tie the game at 3-3, Brookings Post 74 gave up three runs in the top of the 10th and fell to Fargo Post 400 6-4 in extra innings on Wednesday.

BROOKINGS – Playing in their first home games of the summer season, the Brookings Bullets dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Sioux Falls East on Wednesday at Bob Shelden Field.

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Post 74 Bandits opened their 2022 summer season with two wins against Post 8 of Pierre.

SALEM – Flandreau Post 70 broke a 5-5 tie in extra innings with a run in the top of the eighth and would hold on to win their summer opener, 6-5, over Post 170 of Salem on Tuesday night.

PIERRE – The Brookings junior legion team swept Pierre Post 8 on the road Tuesday night. The Chutes won game one 8-4 and then won the second game 9-5.

SIOUX FALLS – For the second consecutive season the Colman-Egan Hawks have made their nest atop the tree in South Dakota Class B track and field.

TULSA, Okla. – The South Dakota State baseball team’s season came to an end on Friday as the Jackrabbits lost 7-4 to North Dakota State in the Summit League Tournament.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – South Dakota State’s track & field team had five athletes compete in the NCAA West Prelims over the weekend, but none qualified for nationals.

SIOUX FALLS – Sioux Valley’s Kamryn Schwartz won the Class A triple jump while the Colman-Egan girls’ 4x800 meter relay team scored the Hawks’ first win in defense of their 2021 state title on Thursday at the combined South Dakota state track and field meet at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Post 74 Junior Legion squad opened the 2022 summer season with a split against Mitchell Post 18 on a picture-perfect Thursday evening at Bob Shelden Field.

The beginning of the transformation of Frost Arena into First Bank & Trust Arena will be marked with a ceremonial groundbreaking on Thursday, June 2.

TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts scored three runs in both the first and second inning and didn’t look back as the Golden Eagles beat South Dakota State 9-4 in the Summit League Tournament on Thursday night.
