Letter to the Editor: Brookings business owner backs Dennis Willert

Running a bakery teaches you a lot about a community.

You see families celebrating birthdays, graduations, weddings, anniversaries, and ordinary mornings. You see people gather, talk, laugh, and support each other. You also see when downtown is thriving, and when it is struggling.

Dennis Willert understands why Main Street matters.

He spent years involved with the Brookings Downtown Business Group because he believes vibrant local businesses strengthen the whole community.

Main Street is more than storefronts.

It creates jobs. It creates identity. It gives young families a reason to stay. It gives older residents a place to belong. It gives children a picture of what local pride looks like.

When local businesses disappear, communities lose more than sales tax revenue. They lose connection.

A strong society works like a strong body. When the core grows weak, every movement becomes harder. Local businesses are part of our community core.

Dennis understands the risk small-business owners take. He knows the pressure of payroll, rent, regulation, staffing, and rising costs. He also knows the joy of serving people face to face.

District 7 needs leaders who understand Main Street from experience, not theory.

I support Dennis Willert for District 7 House because he believes local families and businesses should stay rooted, strong, and free to build. Strength begins at the source.
