BROOKINGS — Gail Meland, an employee at the Medary Acres Greenhouse in Brookings, leads a tour of the greenhouse for members of the Brookings Activity Center on April 2. The staff at the greenhouse are busy at work preparing for the business’ opening on April 13.
Established in 1952, the family owned seasonal greenhouse has been serving Brookings and the surrounding area for more than six decades. Brian and Lynn Darnall have been in charge of the operation since 1972.
With the recent death of Brian last week, the task of managing Medary Acres has been passed to the couple’s daughter, Sarah Alfano, and her husband, Micky Alfano.
