Cossacks run away from Quarriers to extend win streak

DELL RAPIDS – The Sioux Valley girls’ outscored Dell Rapids 38-25 en route to a 67-52 win on Monday night.

The Cossacks led 10-2 with 3:18 left in the first quarter. However, the Quarriers then went on a 12-4 run to end the quarter and it was 14-14 heading into the second. Dell Rapids then went up 21-17 with 5:23 to go in the first half, but Sioux Valley would outscore the Quarriers 12-6 the rest of the half and led 29-27 at halftime.

Sioux Valley made its move in the third quarter. The Cossacks led 34-33 with 3:45 to go in the quarter and then went on a 13-4 run to go up 45-37 with 1:52 left. They eventually led 51-42 going into the fourth. Talya Vincent and Kailey Cradduck then hit back-to-back threes to make it 57-42 with 6:21 to go. Sioux Valley’s largest lead was 65-44 with 4:15 to play.

The Cossacks shot 41.7% from the field and were 14-of-36 from three. Cradduck led the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Vincent had 18 points and Liberty Trygstad had 12 points. Miley Keating had eight points and Amari Ward had seven points.

Dell Rapis Shot 30.3% from the field and were 3-of-17 from beyond the arc. The Quarriers were led by Rorie Thoreson who had 23 points. Elin Schoenhard had 11 points and Jersi Schultz had seven points and 10 rebounds.

Dell Rapids dominated the rebound battle with a 48-27 advantage and the Quarriers had 23 offensive rebounds. The Cossacks had 10 turnovers and the Quarriers had 16. Sioux Valley was 3-of-4 at the free throw line and Dell Rapids was 9-of-16 at the charity stripe.

Sioux Valley has now won five straight and 10 of the past 11 games. The Cossacks are 16-2 on the season and play at Castlewood at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
