Warriors top Bobcats in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS – The Brookings girls’ basketball team lost to Sioux Falls Washington on Tuesday night.

The Bobcats got out to a slow start as they trailed 21-5 at the end of the first quarter. Brookings then cut the lead to 33-20 by halftime. Washington outscored Brookings 17-16 in the third quarter and then held a 17-9 advantage in the final eight minutes to make the final margin 22.

Brookings shot 39% from the field and was 6-of-18 from three. Sloan McLagan had a big game for the ‘Cats with 21 points and she was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Julia Burns had 11 points and five rebounds. Tessa Connot had six points and Taylee Connot had four points.

The Warriors shot 40% from the field and were 3-of-17 from three. Dana Harpe had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead Washington. Josie Biteler had 17 points and Rylan Kennett had 10 points.

Washington dominated the rebound battle with a 51-21 advantage on the glass. The Warriors had 28 offensive rebounds. Each team had 19 turnovers. The Bobcats were 7-of-14 at the free throw line and the Warriors were 16-of-29.

This was Brookings’ sixth-straight game without leading scorer Macy Even. The Bobcats are now 1-11 after winning their first game of the season. Brookings will play at Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
