Sioux Valley in 12th place at state tournament in Vermillion

VERMILLION The Sioux Valley boys golf team sits in 12th place in the Class A State Tournament after the first round was played Monday at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion.

The Cossacks shot 356 as a team. Dakota Valley is in first place after shooting a 291. Vermillion is in second (297) and St. Thomas More is in third (311). Aberdeen Roncalli is in fourth (327) and Sioux Falls Christian rounded out the top five (328).

Damon Uecker was the top golfer for the Cossacks on Monday and he is tied for 23rd after shooting an 80. Trentyn Schmit is tied for 33rd (83) and Landon Hanssen is tied for 74th (95). Nate Larson is tied for 83rd (98) and McCade Nelson is tied for 86th (100).

St. Thomas Mores Hayden Heig is in first place after shooting a three-under 69. Dakota Valleys Matt DeBeer and Parkstons Landon Weber are tied for second (71). Dakota Valleys Tate Cronelsen is in fourth (72) and Vermillions Jack Johnson is in fifth (73).

The tournament will conclude with the second round on Tuesday.
