The Brookings volleyball team picked up its first win of the season on Thursday night as the Bobcats topped Hamlin. Sioux Valley fell to Clark/Willow Lake in other area action.
The Bobcats won the road and the Cossacks lost at home. Each match went five sets. Brookings will play in the Huron Invitational on Saturday and Sioux Valley will host Parker/Marion on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Brookings 3, Hamilin 2
HAYTI The Chargers won the first set 25-20 and then the Bobcats tied things up with a 25-23 victory in set two. Brookings then fell behind 2-1 as Hamlin won set three 25-15 but the Bobcats forced a fifth set with a 25-23 win in set four. Brookings then won the final set 15-10.
There were no individual stats available.
Clark/Willow Lake 3, Sioux Valley 2
VOLGA It was the first loss of the season for the Cossacks and it was a heartbreaker.
Sioux Valley won the first set 26-19 and then the Cyclones evened things up with a 25-21 win in set two. The Cossacks would take a 2-1 lead with a 25-19 win in set three, but CWL won the fourth set 25-20. The Cyclones then won the winner-take-all set 16-14.
Sioux Valley had 43 kills as a team and 91 digs. Emma Gorvin had 14 kills and 12 digs to lead the Cossacks. Lacey Langland had 10 kills and eight digs. McKinley Schwab had 17 assists and Talya Vincent had 21 digs. Cameron Uecker had 13 digs and 14 assists. Maci Licht had seven kills and seven digs.
The Cossacks are now 1-1 on the season.
