Bobcat girls soccer draws with Spearfish, falls to Pierre

BROOKINGS The Brookings girls soccer team began the season with a draw and a loss over the weekend at the Fishback Soccer Complex in Brookings.

The Bobcats played Spearfish to a 2-2 draw on Friday and then fell 3-2 to Pierre on Saturday. Brookings plays at Tea Area on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Friday

Spearfish 2, Brookings 2

Spearfish took a 1-0 lead 26 minutes into the game. Brookings then tied the game when Shae Lefers scored and Aubrey Knutzen assisted her.

Spearfish then regained the lead with just under 25 minutes left. Brookings was able to tie the game with 17 minutes to go as Grace Romsa found the back of the net and she was assisted by Lefers.

Neither team scored the rest of the way.

Lefers had one shot on goal and Romsa two shots and one of them was on goal. Lauren Jones, Lexi Erp and Abbi Poppinga each had one shot.

Saturday

Pierre 3, Brookings 2

Pierre jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half and Brookings fought back to tie the game. However, Pierre scored the game-winning goal with just over a minute to go.

Pierre scored one minute into the game to go up 1-0. The Governors then made it 2-0 with 7:21 to play in the first half.

Brookings would cut the lead in half with three and half minutes to play in the first half as Romsa scored an unassisted goal. Rylee Briggs then tied the game on a penalty kick with just under 28 minutes to go in the game. Pierre scored the game-winning goal with 1:04 left.

Romsa had four shots and three were on goal and Briggs had two shots, one on goal. Lauren Jones had two shots and Sophia Schmit had one shot. Lindsey Walker had a shot on goal.
