Satish Saxena

Dr. Satish Saxena passed away on April 4, 2026 at the age of 88.

Satish was born June 4, 1937 in Khurja, India, son of Manohar Lal Saxena and Champa Devi. He began training as a lawyer but ultimately changed fields to become a medical doctor. He served in the Indian Army and helped set up hospitals in remote Northern India. He met his wife of 35 years, Kumud Saxena MD, in 1966 while they were both in medical school. They married on January 10, 1968 and subsequently moved to England, and later to Canada, to practice medicine.

In 1980, Satish answered an ad for a doctor to open a medical practice in Brookings, South Dakota. From 1980 to 1990, he ran a solo medical practice in Brookings. He also served as the Brookings County Coroner during those years. He later joined the Brookings Medical Clinic, where he was dedicated to the Brookings community as an internist until his retirement in 2010. In 2013, he moved to Minnesota to spend more time with his children and grandchildren.

Satish enjoyed the hunt for a new car, investing in the stock market, playing bridge and gin rummy, and pro wrestling. He was the most kind and generous man, who taught his family to be the same.

Satish is survived by his four children, Malinee (Jeff Ansite) Saxena, Retu (Greg Ripley) Saxena, Nisha (Andy Buncombe) Saxena, and Surya (Angela Willms) Saxena; six grandchildren, Shobin, Nikhil, Mira, Asha, Arya, and Raina; and numerous other family members in India. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Kumud Saxena, his parents, and several siblings.

Satish’s family would like to thank the staff at the Waters of Plymouth for the care they provided him over the past several months.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Condolences may be sent to the family at: [email protected]

My family loved both of your parents. Your dad was my dad’s doctor and they had a great friendship too. Both of your parents were great additions to the Brookings community.
