The Brookings 12U Black team won the state tournament last weekend and the 10U team finished in third place.
Brookings 12U
The 12U team won all six games that they played in. Brookings beat Huron 12-5 in its first game of the tournament and then topped Mitchell SGS 13-3 in game two. In the fourth game of the tournament Brookings beat SEBA 29-5 and then they took down Brandon Valley 18-4. Brookings then beat the Mitchell Sliders 12-2 before topping Pierre 12-6 in the championship game.
The Brookings offense was led by Branch Otteson who had 18 hits, including two doubles, nine triples and one home run. Ty Koch had 18 hits as well and had one double and four triples. Max Merkley had 13 hits with four doubles, three triples and one grand slam. Every player on the roster had a hit, an RBI and a run scored in the win over SEBA.
Otteson pitched eight innings in the tournament and had 16 strikeouts. Koch had also pitched eight innings and had nine strikeouts. Conner Hanna pitched eight innings and had seven strikeouts.
The roster includes Beckett Grunewaldt, Branch Otteson, Cayler Reicks, Conner Hanna, Gavin Horn, Griffin Lease, Juke Anderson, Liam Diercks, Louis Yoshida, Max Merkley, Tallen Bartels and Ty Koch. Coaches are Tim Lease, Jared Horn and Brady Diercks.
Brookings 10U
The 10U team went 3-1 over the weekend. Brookings beat Midwest Evolution in the first game 15-5. They then topped Spearfish 11-3 before beating Midwest Evolution again, this time 5-4. In the semifinals Brookings fell to Spearfish 9-3.
Members of the roster include Bennett Honkomp, Callen Fogelson, Cody Olson, Code Krogman, Hendrix Schmeichel, Hunter Vincent, Jrue Jacobsen, Luke Koch, Maddox Chandler, Sutton Jensen and William Poss. Coaches are Willy Oslon, Jordan Jacobsen and Tyler Koch.
