Brookings Bombers Black wins first game as weather washes away second game

BROOKINGS The Brookings Bombers Black 14U team won game one of a doubleheader against Sioux Falls Post 15 on Tuesday night at Bob Shelden Field before the second game was canceled due to weather.

The Bombers won the game 8-4. They fell behind 4-2 in the first two innings, but then outscored Post 15 6-0 the rest of the way.

Sioux Falls scored one run in the top of the first. Their first batter was hit by a pitch and then he stole second and advanced to third on a ground out. He then came home on a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

Brookings answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Ty Johnson walked to lead off the inning and then scored on a one-out triple from Cooper Drawdy. Ty Delbridge then walked and Drawdy scored on a ground out from Hayden Jones to make it 2-1 heading into the second.

Sioux Falls regained the lead in the top of the second. A single and a walk put two runners on with two outs. Rhythm Klemm then hit the ball to right center field and used his speed to move all the way around the bases and make it 4-2.

Brookings would seize the lead again in the bottom of the third. Drawdy hit another triple to lead off the inning and then scored on a Delbridge single to make it 4-3. Jennings Huntimer then walked with one out and Delbridge scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Huntimer came home on a fielders choice from Grayson Wagner and Dario McSweeney scored on a Carter Nielsen ground out to make it 6-4.

The Bombers added two more runs in the fourth and both of them came with two outs. Jones walked and then scored on a triple from Huntimer. McSweeney then hit Huntimer home with a single and neither team scored the rest of the way.

Brookings had eight hits in the victory. Huntimer was 1-for-1 with an RBI and Drawdy was 2-for-4. Delbridge and Wagner were each 1-for-3 with an RBI and McSweeney was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Johnson was 1-for-2 and Mason Burzlaff was 1-for-4. Jones and Nieslen each had an RBI without a hit.

Jones pitched a complete game and gave up four earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Brookings is now 15-16-2 and hosts a doubleheader with Brandon Valley on Thursday starting at 5 p.m.
