SIOUX FALLS The Brookings Bandits went 2-2 at the Dakota Classic in Sioux Falls over the weekend.
The Bandits beat Hauptman OBrien (Bellevue, Nebraska) 5-4 in their first game on Friday. They then lost to West Fargo 13-2 later in the day and fell to Anderson Ford (Lincoln, Nebraska) 4-3 on Saturday. On Sunday Brookings came away with a 3-2 win over Papillion South (Nebraska). Brookings is now 7-6 on the season and hosts a doubleheader with Spearfish on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Friday
Brookings 5, Hauptman O’Brien North 4
Brookings scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 5-3 and then held off HOBN in the top of the seventh.
The Bandits broke a 0-0 tie with a run in the bottom of the third. Tre Christopherson hit Jay Harris home with a single to make it 1-0.
HOBN then scored two runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead. They scored both of their runs on a double. They then extended the lead to 3-1 with a run on a ground out in the top of the sixth.
Brookings would regain the lead in the bottom of the inning. Nolan Wagner came home on a fielders choice from Harris to make it 3-2. Maxten Jensen would then tie the game with an RBI single and Christopherson gave the Bandits the lead with a two-run double.
HOBN scored a run on a fielders choice in the top of the seventh but wasnt able to score another run and Brookings earned the win.
The Bandits had five hits. Christopherson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Jensen was 1-for-2. Harris was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Tyson Antonen was 1-for-3.
Kysin Reuer pitched the first five and two thirds innings. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and five walks. Jase Bauer pitched an inning and a third and gave up one earned run on one hit with two walks and no strikeouts.
West Fargo 13, Brookings 2 (6 inn.)
West Fargo scored all of its runs in fourth, fifth and sixth innings and won via the 10-run rule.
The Vets scored two runs in the top of the third. The first run came home on a bases-loaded walk and then a batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 2-0.
West Fargo added two more runs in the top of the fourth. Both runs came on RBI singles.
Brookings scored its first run in the bottom of the fourth. Winston Plummer hit Cooper Scneider with a double to make it 4-1.
West Fargo made it 8-1 in the top of the fifth. The Vets scored runs on a sacrifice fly, an RBI double and a two-run single.
The Vets then put the game out of reach with five runs in the top of the sixth. The first run came on an error and then a sacrifice fly made it 10-1. Two RBI singles and an RBI double pushed the lead to 13-1.
Brookings needed to score three runs in the bottom of the inning to keep the game going but could only score one. Nolan Wagner hit Reuer home with a sacrifice fly to make it 13-2.
Brookings had three hits in the loss. Plummer was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Schneider was 1-for-2. Ryan Lockrem was 1-for-1. Wagner had an RBI without a hit.
Harris pitched the first four innings and gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Ryder Anderson pitched the final two innings and gave up nine runs, seven earned, on 10 hits with one walk and no strikeouts.
Saturday
Anderson Ford 4, Brookings 3 (8 inn.)
Anderson Ford scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to top Brookings.
Each team scored one run in the third. Scheider scored on a ground out from Harris to make it 1-0. Then Anderson Ford scored on an RBI single to make it 1-1.
The Bandits would go up 3-1 in the top of the fifth. Tane Friedrich hit Schneider and Christopherson home with a single. Anderson Ford then tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with two runs from a single.
The Bandits had five hits in the loss. Friedrich was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Schneider was 2-for-3. Jensen and Christopherson were each 1-for-3.
Schneider pitched the first five innings and gave up three runs, one earned, on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Christopherson pitched the final two and a third innings and gave up one earned run on no hits with one walk.
Sunday
Brookings 3, Papillon South 2
The Bandits scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to come away with the victory to end the weekend.
Papillon took the lead in the top of the third with an RBI single. Brookings then tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Plummer and Antonen walked and then Harris hit a single to load the bases with one out. Reuer was then walked and that sent home the tying run.
Papillon regained the lead in the top of the seventh as a runner came home during a double play.
Christopherson walked with one out and then scored on a Bauer triple to tie the game. Schneider and Plummer were then each intentionally walked and Antonen drew a regular walk to score the game-winning run.
Bauer was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Antonen was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Harris was 1-for-3 and Reuer had an RBI without a hit.
Lockrem pitched a complete game. He gave up two earned runs on six hits with one strikeout and one walk.
