Bombers Black swept in Pierre

PIERRE The Brookings Bombers Black 14U team were swept in a doubleheader in Pierre on Tuesday night.

Pierre won each game by 10 runs, winning game one 12-2 and game two 16-6. Brookings is now 5-6 and plays in the Cubbys Classic in Brookings this weekend.

Game 1: Pierre 10, Brookings 3

Pierre scored 10 unanswered runs after falling behind 1-0 and that led to the Bombers loss in game one.

Brookings broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the third. Brady Nutter reached on an error with two outs. He then scored on a double from Grayson Wagner to make it 1-0.

Pierre responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The first run came on a sacrifice fly and then an RBI single made it 2-1.

Pierre extended the lead to 3-1 in the fourth with an RBI single. Then another RBI single, a run from a fielders choice and a sacrifice fly in the fifth pushed the lead to 6-1.

Pierre scored four more runs in the sixth. They hit a single and a double to lead off the inning and then a walk loaded the bases with no outs. Then a grand slam made it 10-1.

Brookings would score two runs in the top of the seventh but that wasnt enough. Ty Delbridge, Mason Burghardt and Carter Nielsen all walked with two outs to load the bases. Nutter then hit Delbridge and Burghardt home to make the final 10-3.

The Bombers had five hits. Nutter was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Wagner was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Delbridge and Burghardt were each 1-for-2. Dario McSweeney was 1-for-4.

Hayden Jones pitched the first three innings for the Bombers. He gave up two earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Delbridge pitched one inning and gave up four earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and four walks. McSweeney pitched two innings and gave up four earned runs on four hits with no strikeout and one walk.

Game 2: Pierre 16, Brookings 6 (5 inn.)

Pierre kept things going in game two as they outscored Brookings 11-0 in the final three innings and won via the 10-run rule in five innings.

Brookings led 3-1 after the first inning. Dario McSweeney and Ty Delbridge each walked to begin the game and then Cooper Drawdy reached on an error to load the bases up. McSweeney scored on a wild pitch and then Delbridge scored on a Jones ground out. Drawdy then scored on a wild pitch as well to make it 3-0. Pierre scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning.

The Bullets scored three more runs in the top of the second. Nielsen, McSweeney and Delbridge all walked with one out to load the bases. Nielsen scored on a fielders choice and then Drawdy and McSweeney came home on a Jones double to make it 6-1.

Pierre cut the lead to 6-5 in the bottom of the second. They loaded up the bases with no outs and then runs from a bases-loaded walk, a fielders choice and an RBI single made it 6-4. Another RBI single made it a one-run game heading into the third.

Pierre took the lead in the bottom of the third. A single to lead off the inning and a two-out single put two runners on and both of those runners scored on another single. A run from an error then made it 8-6 Pierre.

Pierre extended the lead to 12-6 in the fourth. The first run of the inning came on a single and then a run on a ground out made it 10-6. A run then came home on an error and another run from a ground out made it a six-run game.

Pierre ended the game in the fifth with four more runs. They had a batter reach on an error and then a single put two runners on. Those two scored on a double and then a run came home on an error. Then an RBI double ended the game with a final score of 16-6.

Brookings had just one hit. Jones was 1-for-3 with three RBIS. Drawdy had an RBI without a hit.

Drawdy pitched one inning and gave up four earned runs on no hits with six walks and no strikeouts. Ty Johnson pitched two innings and gave up four runs, three earned, on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Nutter pitched one inning and gave up eight runs, four runs, on four hits with no strikeouts and two walks.
