SIOUX FALLS The Brookings boys tennis team had one single and one double team win consolation championships at the Class AA State Tennis Tournament on Friday in Sioux Falls.
Xavier St. Pierre became the Flight Six consolation champion after beating Brandon Valleys Titan Gross 10-7 in the consolation championship. That was after he won two matches on Thursday after losing his opening match. St. Pierre was the No. 10 seed in Flight Six.
St. Pierre and Andrew Hahn won the consolation championship in Flight Three of the doubles tournaments. The duo beat Brandon Valleys Sanders Anshutz and Gross 10-2 in the consolation semifinals and then topped Sioux Falls Jeffersons Ian Casper and Asher Vandewater 10-5 in the consolation championship.
Zach Mueller and Brodie McCarty fell in consolation semifinals in Flight Two. They lost to Yanktons Christopher Rockne and Luke Moeller 10-7.
Brookings as a team finished in 13th place out of 14 teams. Harrisburg won the team title with 494.5 points.
