Brookings splits doubleheader with Huron

BROOKINGS The Brookings wrestling teams split a doubleheader with Huron on Tuesday night at the Auxiliary Gym in Brookings.

The Bobcat girls beat the Tigers 27-24, while the Brookings boys fell 42-36. The Brookings girls will compete in Harrisburg on Friday and the boys will be in Arlington on Saturday.

Girls

Brookings 27, Huron 24

The Bobcats won all four matches that were played on Tuesday. Bailey TeKrony pinned Chalie Sah in 3:32 in the 107-pound weight class to kick things off. Lily Toft then pinned Reva McGaugh in 1:55 at 114 to make it 12-0.

Camilla Von Eye won via forfeit at 120. Kami Erickson then won a 7-2 decision over Hsa Eh Wah at 126. Ramsie Hinricher pinned Say Glay in 2:24 at 132 to make it 21-6 Brookings. Martiza Hernandez, Paola Fernandez and Mya Shee all won via forfeit for Huron. However, Kendis Sackreiter won via forfeit at heavyweight for the Bobcats that earned them the team victory.

Boys

Huron 42, Brookings 36

Each team won seven of the 14 matches. The Bobcats took the first match of the night as Jacob Milliron won an 8-3 decision over Brady Meyer in the 132-pound weight class. That put Brookings up 3-0, but the Tigers won the next five matches.

Crayton Siedschlag pinned Jack Griggs in 3:16 at 138. Teagan Lien then pinned Jonas Murray in 18 seconds at 144 to give the Tigers a 12-3 lead.

Tyce Huber then pinned Cayden Westall in 5:08 at 150 and Levi Johnson won because of a forfeit at 157. Moses Gross then pinned James Fitzpatrick in 3:08 at 165 and that made it 30-3 Huron.

Brookings then won the next four matches. Blake Kannegieter got the run started for the Cats at 175 as he pinned TJ Lien in 5:28. Gabriel Stern then took the mat at 190 and pinned Ryan Florey in 1:043. Zach Hagemann picked up a 17-3 major decision over Ben Cardona at 2:15 and Dylan Reynolds won via forfeit at heavyweight, making it 30-25 Huron with four matches left.

Huron won the next two matches. Emrick DeDeyne pinned Bode TeKrony in 3:40 at 106 and Carter NElson pinned Briggs Archer in 3:05 at 113. That would seal the dual for the Tigers. Brookings didnt give up though as the Bobcats won the next two matches. Micah Stern pinned Alec Pester in 1:44 at 120 and then Haiden Baxter closed things out at 126 with a 25-8 technical fall victory.
