MISSOULA, Mont. South Dakota State extended its win streak to four games on Saturday afternoon as the Jackrabbits beat Montana 78-70 on the road.
Brooklyn Meyer dominated the game with a career-high 32 points. She was 12-of-15 from the field and 8-of-9 at the free throw line.
SDSU (7-2) trailed 13-12 with 2:22 left in the second quarter and then went on a 6-0 run to end the quarter and led 18-13 heading into the second. The Jacks extended the lead to 21-13 but the Grizzlies then went on an 8-0 run to tie the game. Montana then took a 29-28 lead but the Jacks finished the quarter strong again as they used a 7-0 run to take a 35-29 lead into halftime.
The Jacks then led 47-40 at the midway point of the third and the Grizzlies went on an 8-0 run to take the lead. However, SDSU went on a 9-2 run to close the quarter and led 56-50 heading into the fourth.
SDSUs lead grew to 62-52 with 7:47 to play and Montana went on an 8-0 run to cut the gap to 62-60 with 5:41 left. The Jacks then led 65-64 and a Madison Mathiowetz 3-pointer put them up four, but Dani Bartsch hit a three on the other end to make it 68-67 with 2:15 left. Haleigh Timmer then hit a dagger with 38 seconds left as she buried a triple to make it 73-67 and that put the game away.
Freshman point guard Emiilee Fox hit four 3-pointers and had 12 points. Mathiowetz had 11 points and six rebounds and Timmer had nine points.
The Grizzlies were led by Bartsch who had 19 points. Adria Linclon had 12 points, Avery Waddington had 11 points and Izabella Zingaro had 10 points.
SDSU outrebounded Montana 35-23. The Jacks had 14 turnovers and the Grizzlies had 11.
The Jacks will play two home games this coming week as theyll take on Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Northern Iowa on Dec. 14. The tip off time against UNI has yet to be announced due to the Jackrabbits football game time, which remains undetermined as of Saturday night.
