NEW YORK Logan Straub of No Illusions Martial Arts came in first place in two different divisions at the Jiu Jitsu World League New York on June 29.
Straub came in first in the Adult Light Weight Blue Belt Nogi Division and the Adult Light Weight Blue Belt GI Division.
It may be hard for some in the area to understand what a big deal it is for a kid from South Dakota to travel to come to New York and do this, said No Illusions coach Cary Bingham. Everyone is super thrilled about it and it was a huge accomplishment. Ill just say he has made quite an impression out here. They call him The South Dakota Kid.
During the same weekend No Illusions had two others competing in Las Vegas at the IBJJF American Nationals. Mick Twedwell of Brookings came in third place in the Female Adult Middleweight Blue Belt Nogi Division and third place in her Female Adult Middleweight Blue Belt Gi Division. Bingham came in second in the Masters 3 Light Feather Black Belt Division.
Overall it is pretty remarkable as our tiny team is competing against some of the best in the nation from either coast, Bingham said.
