Each year, Optimist clubs around the world volunteer their time and skills in programs to improve their communities and provide opportunities for the youth of all ages.
They provide leadership, scholarship, wellness, safety, arts and sports programs. Optimist members look to the future with hope, and on Optimist Day we celebrate the volunteers who share their enthusiasm, skills and talent to make tomorrow a vibrant and peaceful one.
The Optimist Club of Brookings has been serving the youth in the community since 1972. Some of the clubs projects include the Avenue of Flags, the Trout Extravaganza in May and the Kite Festival in June. The Optimist Club sponsors several scholarships each year. Right now, the Oratorical Contest, Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing are underway, and the Optimist Junior Golf Contest will be this summer.
The Brookings Optimist Club meets each Tuesday at noon at the Pizza Ranch. For more information about the Optimist Club andits projects, visit itsFacebook page or call 695-695-9955.
