High school girls basketball: Turnovers plague Brookings Bobcats in loss to Brandon Valley Lynx

BRANDON The Brookings Bobcats fell on the road as they lost to the Brandon Valley Lynx 49-42 on Friday night.

The Lynx led 7-4 at the end of the first quarter and extended its lead to 21-15 at halftime. Brandon Valley led 38-29 at the end of three quarters and although the Bobcats cut the lead to 42-37 with 1:25 to play, they couldnt gain more ground as the Lynx held steady for the victory.

Macy Even led the Bobcats with 12 points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist. Tess Burns had seven points, five rebounds, two blocks and an assist. Logan Smidt had six points, six rebounds, two steals and an assist and Brinleigh Mack had six points and two rebounds.

Sloan McLagan had five points, four rebounds and an assist.

Ava Kellenberger led Brandon Valley with a game-high 16 points to go with seven rebounds and five steals. Alyvia Padgett had 12 points, four steals and three rebounds and Madison Geiver had 11 points, 10 rebounds and one block.

Brookings shot 28 percent from the floor including 1-for-11 (9.1%) on 3-pointers. The Bobcats also went 23-for-35 (65.7%) from the free-throw line and committed 25 turnovers.

Brandon Valley shot 27 percent from the floor including 2-for-17 (11.8%) on 3-pointers. The Lynx went 15-for-20 on free throws and committed 15 turnovers while outrebounding Brookings 33-29.

The Bobcats fell to 2-5 with the loss and will face Mitchell at the Corn Palace on Friday night.
