BROOKINGS The Brookings Bobcats swept a home triangular as the boys and girls teams defeated Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Yankton at Brookings High School on Tuesday night.
Boys
The Bobcats had a successful evening, defeating Yankton 52-26 and Sioux Falls Roosevelt 84-0. After picking up the wins, Brookings head coach Matt Hanson was pleased with his teams progress in the seasons early weeks.
I thought tonight was really good, Hanson said. We talked a few weeks ago about getting better and it showed tonight. Even some of our inexperienced kids got some wins tonight, which means that all the work theyre putting in practice is starting to pay off.
Brookings 52, Yankton 26
Damian Janish gave Yankton an early lead with a 16-1 technical fall over Micah Stern at 106 pounds but after Tate Helmbolt won by forfeit at 113 pounds, Levi Quam rallied from a 6-0 deficit before pinning Devon Coke at 4:21 of their 120-pound match.
He didnt quit wrestling and got the fall for us in the third period, Hanson said. It was a testament to him because a month ago, he showed up for the first day of varsity practice and we werent sure what we were going to get. Now, hes battling through matches like that to get wins for his teammates. Thats showing a lot of growing up right there.
Jacob Milliron pinned Caden Janssen in 49 seconds at 126 pounds before Sawyer Johnson won by forfeit at 132 pounds. Nolan Miles earned a 15-0 technical fall over Joelton Reimnitz-Hahn at 138 pounds before Dylan Sloan defeated Mason Mathis by a 7-5 decision at 144 pounds.
Bode Thurman defeated James Fitzpatrick by fall in 21 seconds at 150 pounds, Logan Straub defeated Dylan Howe by a 16-0 technical fall at 157 pounds, Blake Kannegieter pinned Chase Howe in 49 seconds at 165 pounds and Gabriel Stern pinned Jackson Slowey at 1:28 of their 175-pound match.
Joey Fitzpatrick pinned Tryker Myers in 32 seconds at 190 pounds before Peyton Eustace pinned Carson Loehr at 1:17 at 215 pounds and Edly Amaro pinned Dylan Reynolds at 4:17 of their heavyweight match.
Brookings 84, Sioux Falls Roosevelt 0
Milliron scored a win for Brookings by pinning Colton Kline in 1:19 at 126 pounds and Johnson pinned Elwood Face Jr. at 3:54 of their 132-pound match.
Miles pinned Zack Brummond in 47 seconds at 138 pounds, James Fitzpatrick pinned Dawson Martinell in 1:14 at 150 pounds and Logan Straub pinned Caden Kline in 1:26 at 157 pounds.
Mathis (144 pounds), Kannegieter (165 pounds), Gabriel Stern (175 pounds), Fitzpatrick (190 pounds), Loehr (215 pounds), Reynolds (285 pounds) Michae Stern (106 pounds), Helmbolt (113 pounds) and Quam (120 pounds) all won by forfeit.
Girls
The Bobcats had successful night on the girls side as well as Brookings defeated Yankton 40-6 and Roosevelt SCORE.
Our girls went out there and wrestled hard, Brookings girls wrestling coach Eric Toft said. We had wins and a bunch of pins. Honestly, Im very pleased with how the girls are wrestling.
Brookings 40, Yankton 6
Lilly Toft picked up a pin for Brookings at 2:28 of a 114 pound match against Monica Massey while Johanna Steinlicht won by a 9-1 major decision over Winry Yaggie at 145 pounds.
Claire Milliron (100 pounds), Bailey Tekrony (107 pounds), Ramsie Hinricher (126 pounds), Cierra Strand (132 pounds) and Maizy Mathis (165 pounds) earned wins by forfeit for Brookings.
Jaclyn Kyte earned a win by forfeit for Yankton at 138 pounds.
Brookings 39, Sioux Falls Roosevelt 0
Lilly Toft pinned SageLynn Culley in 2:27 at 114 pounds and Sierra Strand won a 5-4 decision over Rachel Dagel at 132 pounds.
Milliron (100 pounds), Tekrony (107 pounds), Hinricher (126 pounds), Steinlicht (145 pounds) and Mathis (165 pounds) earned wins by forfeit by Brookings.
