The Arlington Cardinals, Deubrook Area Dolphins and Flandreau Fliers earned victories during the first weekend of high school basketball action in the area.
Arlington 58, Colman-Egan 35
ARLINGTON The Cardinals used a strong second quarter to defeat the Hawks on Friday night.
Arlington won the first quarter 18-12 before out-scoring C-E 16-4 in the second quarter to lead 34-16 at halftime. The Cardinals led 47-27 at the end of the third quarter before winning the fourth quarter 11-8.
Addalyn Steffensen led Arlington with a game-high 22 points while Jaelyn Huntimer had 15 points, four rebounds and four assists. Jolyssa Steffensen and Harley Johnson also had seven points each for the Cardinals, who shot 38 percent from the floor and outrebounded C-E 35-31.
Brynlee Landis led C-E with 11 points and six rebounds while Kaylee Voelker had eight points and Lanie Mousel had six points. Elaina Rhode also had five points and six rebounds. The Hawks shot 35 percent from the floor and committed 28 turnovers.
Arlington improved to 2-0 with the win and will host Iroquois/Lake Preston on Monday night. The Hawks fell to 1-1 and will travel to Canistota on Tuesday night.
Deubrook Area 47, De Smet 46
WHITE The Dolphins held on to defeat the Bulldogs on Friday night.
After the game was tied at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter, the Dolphins pulled ahead 22-18 at halftime. De Smet took a 36-29 lead at the end of the third quarter but Deubrook rallied to come away with the win in the fourth quarter.
Kylee Johnson had a team-high 13 points for the Dolphins while Maya Gouws had 12 points. Kyarra Blum also had eight points in the win.
The Dolphins improved to 1-1 on the season and will host Deuel on Tuesday night.
Flandreau 69, Chester 36
CHESTER Flandreau led 17-5 at the end of the first quarter and then led 43-17 at halftime. The Fliers would then extend their lead to 66-21 at the end of the third and were able to cruise to a win in their first game of the season.
Flandreau shot 50.9% from the field and was 4-of-13 from three. The Fliers were led by Lizzie Pavlis who had 21 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Claire Sheppard had 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Lily Klein and Morgan Sheppard each had eight points. Klein also had six assists and four steals.
The Flyers were led by Jacy Wolf who had 24 points. Flandreau had 35 rebounds and Chester had 22. Flandreau was 9-of-13 at the free throw line and Chester was 7-of-11 at the charity stripe.
Flandreau hosts Hamlin at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
