Arrest made after child’s foot run over by vehicle in Brookings

BROOKINGS An arrest has been made in a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident involving a juveniles foot being run over on Dec. 7 in Brookings.

Sanford Baslee, 31, of Brookings was arrested Dec. 8 and is facing a single charge of felony hit and run, according to a probable cause statement released by the Brookings County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:11 p.m. at the intersection of 12th Street South and 17th Avenue South, according to a news release from the Brookings Police Department. It involved a sport utility vehicle and an 11-year-old child who was attempting to cross a street. The youngster was taken to Brookings Health System for treatment.

The arrest was made at a point after the SUVs driver had left the accident scene, per information from the BPD.

The (BPD) would like to remind everyone to look out for pedestrians, dont stop in crosswalks at traffic lights or intersections, and be aware of your surroundings, BPD Lt. Joe Fishbaugher wrote in the release.
