The Brookings Rangers hosted the Dakota Premier Classic for the bantam levels while the girls 14U, and squirt teams hit the road and the Pee Wee teams scored a pair of decisive victories in this weeks Ranger Roundup.
BANTAM A
BROOKINGS The Rangers hosted the Dakota Premier Classic at the Larson Ice Center from Dec. 1 through Dec. 3.
Brookings picked up wins over Brandon Valley, Fargo and Rushmore in its first three games of the tournament but fell to the Warbirds in the championship game to finish in second place.
Brookings 10, Brandon Valley 0
The Rangers shut out Brandon Valley in a game on Friday afternoon.
Carson Kludt scored a hat trick and added an assist while Jason Ready tallied two goals and two assists for a four-point afternoon. Maxten Jensen scored twice with an assist while Mason Diers had a pair of assists.
Andrew Haufschild and Cade Zweber each had a goal while Jack Lovseth, Isaac Andal, Atwood Ahmann and Cannon Friedrich each had an assist in the win.
Neil Trygstad made all six saves for the shutout. The Rangers outshot Brandon Valley 51-6.
Brookings 6, Fargo 2
The Rangers second win of the tournament came on Friday night against Fargo.
Fargo took a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period, but Brookings rallied with two goals in the second period and four goals in the third period to come away with the win.
Ready and Kludt each had two goals and an assist while Andal and Bartley each dished out a pair of assists. Zweber and Diers each scored a goal while Un-Hyeng Keay and Nolan Krogman each had an assist.
Neil Trygstad made seven saves and the Rangers outshot the Freeze 41-9.
Brookings 3, Rushmore 0
The Rangers picked up their second shutout of the tournament by defeating Rushmore on Saturday afternoon.
Ready scored a goal from Kludt to put the Rangers on the board in the first period before Diers scored twice with assists from Jack Lovseth and Cannon Friedrich early in the second period and Lovseth and Krogman late in the second period to put the game away.
Trygstad made all 15 saves to earn the shutout. The Rangers outshot the Thunder 40-15.
Warbirds 3, Brookings 2 (OT)
The Rangers fell in overtime in the championship game of the tournament on Sunday morning.
Lovseth scored on an assist from Diers in the first period and Bartley scored with an assist from Ready in the second period.
Trygstad stopped 24 shots while the Rangers outshot the Warbirds 27-25.
BANTAM B
BROOKINGS The Rangers hosted the Dakota Premier Classic at the Larson Ice Center from Dec. 1 through Dec. 3.
Brookings finished in second place in the tournament, picking up a win over Fargo Green, a tie over Mitchell and two losses to Fairmont.
Fairmont 1, Brookings 0
The Rangers dropped their first game of the tournament to Fairmont on Friday afternoon. Fairmont scored their lone goal in the first period and kept Brookings out of the net over the final two periods to preserve the victory.
Jon Drew started in net for the Rangers and made 19 saves. Fairmont outshot the Rangers 20-17.
Brookings 7, Fargo Green 2
The Rangers rebounded to defeat Fargo Green in their second game of the tournament on Saturday morning.
Thatcher Haselhorst opened the scoring for Brookings with a goal from Colin Jacobseon and Colt Vanmaanen with 8:04 to go in the first period. The Rangers followed that up with three goals in the second period including Carter Nielsons goal from Jacobson and Vanmaanen with 13:04 remaining.
Haselhorst scored his second goal of the game from Ty Harris and Jeremiah Hovey with 9:30 to play in the second period and Vanmaanen scored from Maxx Anderson with 4:58 left in the scond period.
Brookings scored three more goals in the third period beginning with Vanmaanens second goal of the game from Ty Harris with 10:35 remaining. Nielsen added an unassisted goal with 7:29 to play and Grant Horn scored from Haselhorst to cap the scoring.
Drew made 20 saves for the Rangers while Brookings outshot Fargo 36-22.
Brookings 4, Mitchell 4
The Rangers third game ended in a tie as they battled Mitchell on Saturday afternoon.
Horn opened the scoring for Brookings with an assist from Vanmaanen with 6:15 to go in teh first period and Vanmaanen added another assist on Jacobsons goal with 4:13 left in the first period.
After a scoreless second period, Ty Harris scored for Brookings from Anderson with 13:45 left in the third period and Hovey added an unassisted goal with 11:12 left in the third period.
Drew made 11 saves for the Rangers and Brookings outshot the Marlins 21-15.
Fairmont 5, Brookings 1
Fairmont scored once in the first period and had two goals each in the second and third periods to defeat the Rangers in the championship game on Sunday morning.
Harris scored the lone goal from Lucas Hovelson and Jacobson in the third period.
Drew made 11 saves for the Rangers. Brookings out-shot Fairmont 29-16.
GIRLS 14U
The Rangers split a pair of road games over the weekend, falling to Watertown on Saturday night and defeating Huron on Sunday morning.
Watertown 7, Brookings 4
WATERTOWN The Lakers scored two goals each in the first and second period and added three goals in the third period to defeat the Rangers at the MAAS Ice Arena.
Emma Schleusner opened the scoring with a pair of first period goals for the Lakers before Ashton Otteson answered with an assist from Emily Meyer to help the Rangers go into the first intermission down 2-1.
Khloe Ziegeldorf tied the game for the Rangers with an unassisted goal at 1:29 of the second period but Gracelyn Webb scored a pair of goals to put Watertown up 4-2.
Ottesons second goal of the game from Emily Meyer at 8:21 of the second period and an unassisted goal to complete the hat trick tied the game at 4-4 at 3:56 of the third period but the Lakers got a pair of goals from Schleusner and an insurance goal from Amerie Serie to put the game away.
Avery Dentlinger made 24 saves for the Rangers. Watertown outshot Brookings 31-11.
Brookings 7, Huron 2
The Rangers rebounded early using three goals in the first period to defeat the All-Stars at Bergman Arena on Sunday morning.
Meyer opened the scoring for the Rangers with an assist from Otteson at 5:06 of the first period before Ziegeldorf and Meyer added unassisted goals to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead.
Although Huron got goals from Juliana Goethel and Taylor SOrben to close the gap to 3-2 in the second period, Juniper Green scored from Kahlei Foerster at 11:35 of the second period and Kinley Foerster scored from Kahlei Foerster at 11:59 of the second period to give Brookings a 5-2 lead.
Brooklyn Nelson scored an unassisted goal at 7:11 of the third period and Meyer scored her third goal of the game from Otteson at 14:16 of the third period.
Dentlinger stopped 22 shots for the Rangers. Brookings out-shot Huron 34-24.
PEEWEE A
Brookings 11, Mitchell 1
BROOKINGS The Rangers dominated their lone game of the weekend, defeating Mitchell at the Larson Ice Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Rangers scored six times in the first period including Owen Roundss goal from Kallen Serfling at 1:35. Graham Gerlach scored from Myles Anderson at 5:03 of the first period while Tegan Jenson scored from Thor Zell at 7:02 of the first period.
Weston Diers added an unassisted shorthanded goal at 8:31 of the first period before Jensen scored from Jasper Pitt and Coy Friedrich at 9:25 of the first period and Rounds scored his second goal of the game from Serfling at 14:27 of the first period.
Diers scored an unassisted goal at 1:44 of the second period before Rounds scored his third goal of the game from Serfling at 9:17 of the second period.
Pitts scored on an assist from Jensen at 3:44 of the third period and netted an unassisted goal at 7:32 of the third period before Jensen scored from Luke Luvaas at 14:22 of the third period.
Warner Carroll made six saves for the Rangers, who outshot Mitchell 17-7.
PEEWEE B
Brookings 21, Mitchell 3
BROOKINGS The Rangers lit up the scoreboard, scoring eight goals in the first period, six goals in the second period and seven goals in the third period to defeat the Marlins at the Larson Ice Center on Sunday afternoon.
Liam Heiberger led the way with an eight-point game, scoring three goals and dishing out five assists. Adrian Almhjeld and Liam Diercks each had a five-point game with Almhjeld scoring four goals with an assist and Diercks recording two goals and three assists.
Gavin Zweibahmer had a four-point game with three goals and an assist.
Deacon Trumbo and Branch Otteson each had two goals and an assist, Pierson Rohl scored twice and Jacob Myhre recorded two assists. Spencer Lovseth had a goal and an assist.
Rykar Quam scored a goal in the first period and Emmett Berkenhoff and Jackson Hahn each had an assist.
SQUIRT A
OMAHA The Rangers headed to Nebraska for the Omaha Winter Classic last weekend as the Rangers competed against South Dakota teams as well as teams from Kansas City, DesMoines, Omaha, Wichita and Fremont.
The Rangers picked up four wins during the tournament, defeating Huron, Brandon Valley twice, and Mitchell.
Brookings 20, Huron 0
The Rangers defeated the All-Stars in a game played on Saturday morning.
Kaden Ziegeldorf had five goals in the game with assists coming from Sutton Jensen and Cooper Hyde. Elliot Ahmann scored three goals assisted by Colton Hendricks, Ziegeldorf and Jensen.
Max Harris scored three goals with an assist from Theo Treml, Jensen scored three goals with an assist from Ryker Schumacher, Treml scored two goals with assists from Harris and Brodie Bahe, Hyde scored twice with an assist by Harris, Hendricks scored with an assist by Schumacher and Schumaker scored on an unassisted goal.
Juke Anderson made two saves in the win.
Brookings 15, Brandon Valley 1
The Rangers picked up another decisive win against Brandon Valley on Dec. 2.
Ziegeldorf scored four goals with an assist from Schmacher. Schumacher also scored four goals with assists from Ziegeldorf and Harris.
Harris scored twice with assists from Jenen and Treml, Callen Fogelson scored with assists from Jensen and Hyde, Treml scored with an assist by Ziegeldorf and Jensen, Finn Konechne and Hyde all scored unassisted goals in the win.
Anderson made two saves in the win.
Brookings 17, Mitchell 0
The Rangers earned their third win of the tournament by defeating Mitchell on Dec. 3.
Hyde scored three goals with an assist by Ziegeldorf and Anderson scored three unassisted goals.
Ziegeldorf scored twice with assists by Elliott Ahmann and Schumacher and Harris scored two unassisted goals. Jensen also scored a pair of unassisted goals while Treml scored twice with an assist from Harris.
Konechne, Fogelson and Hendrix Schmeichel each scored an unassisted goal.
Bahe made two saves in the win.
Brookings 20, Brandon Valley 0
The Rangers defeated Brandon Valley for the second time in the tournament on Dec. 3.
Schumacher scored five goals with assists from Ziegeldorf, Ahmann and Anderson.
Anderson scored three goals with assists from Harris Ahmann and Hendricks.
Jensen scored twice with an assist by Harris, Hyde scored twice with an assist by Anderson and Fogelson scored with assists from Harris and Hyde.
Harris scored with an assist from Anderson, Hendricks scored with an assist by Ahmann, and Konechne, Ahmann, Ziegeldorf and Schmeichel each had an unassisted goal.
