College football: Jackrabbits Jadon Janke, Mark Gronowski share MVFC award

The South Dakota State tandem of wide receiver Jadon Janke and quarterback Mark Gronowski were honored Monday as Missouri Valley Football Conference Co-Offensive Players of the Week for their performances in the Jackrabbits Nov. 18 victory over Missouri State to complete a perfect regular season.

A senior from Madison, Janke set a career high in receiving yards for the second week in a row, hauling in a career-best 10 receptions for 187 yards and a touchdown. Janke capped the Jackrabbit scoring with a 36-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter and also caught passes for 22, 36 and 40 yards in the contest.

Jankes 187 receiving yards are tied for the ninth-most ever in a game by a Jackrabbit.

Gronowski accounted for three touchdowns in an efficient performance. He completed 16-of-23 passes for a career-high 323 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing seven times for 25 yards and a score. It marked the seventh time this season and 21st time in his career that Gronowski has passed and rushed for touchdowns in the same game.

Besides his 36-yard touchdown pass to Janke, Gronowski delivered a 31-yard touchdown pass to tight end Zach Heins in the first quarter.

The 11-0 Jackrabbits were awarded the top seed for the 2023 Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. SDSU received a first-round bye and will host the winner between Gardner-Webb and Mercer on Dec. 2 at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
