STILLWATER,Oklahoma The South Dakota State mens cross country team finished fifth in the team standings, with two runners in the top 25, at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday.
SDSU freshman Carson Noecker led the way for the Jackrabbits as he took All-Region honors with a 15th place finish in his first 10k, clocking a 30:50.0. He was the highest placing athlete from the Summit League.
Daniel Burkhalter also earned All-Region recognition with his time of 31:13.9 for 22nd place. Cody Larson made his 10k debut and claimed 33rd with a time of 31:28.5. Rounding out the scoring runners were Josh Becker (59th, 31:59.6) and Christian Noble (67th, 32:07.9), who also ran their first 10k races.
Will Lohr ran a 32:57.2 for 123rd and Jackson Dutcher came 161st in 33:41.3 in their 10k debuts.
Before the meet, South Dakota State was ranked ninth in the region by USTFCCCA. Despite this, SDSU finished fifth in the team standings with 196 points and were the top placing Summit League squad.
Oklahoma State and Iowa State earned the automatic team bids to the NCAA Cross Country Championships, claiming first and second place respectively. Denis Kipngetich was the individual champion from Oklahoma State.
Women
Led by an All-Region top-25 performance from Leah (Hansen) Hisken, the South Dakota State womens cross country team finished 15th out of 32 teams on Friday at the NCAA Midwest Regional.
Finishing first for SDSU was Hisken, who in her last cross country race as a Jackrabbit, claimed 24th place with a time of 21:19.7. She was the second-highest placing athlete from the Summit League in the 6k.
The remaining four scoring runners finished within milliseconds of each other, and all placed within the top 100. Claire Beckman took 87th in 22:17.2 as Mya Kizer ran a 22:18.2 for 89th.
Just behind her was Jessica Lutmer in 90th with a 22:18.4 and finally, rounding out the scoring, was Caitlin Bright as she clocked a 22:18.6 for 92nd.
Jackrabbit senior Nicole Greyer finished 129th in 22:49.2 for her last collegiate cross country race and Grace Waage was 137th with a time of 22:55.1.
South Dakota State finished 15th out of 32 teams with 382 points. Oklahoma State and Iowa State earned the automatic team bids to the NCAA Cross Country Championships, claiming first and second place, respectively. Billah Jepkirui was the individual champion from Oklahoma State.
