Eleanor Elizabeth “ET” Taylor, 83, of Brookings, South Dakota, passed away on March 26, 2024.
She was born on Jan. 14, 1941, in Tillsonburg, Ontario, Canada, to Maurice and Irene (Plasschaert) Verhoeve. She received her education and post-secondary schooling in Canada.
She married the love of her life, William Walter Taylor, Sr. on Oct. 10, 1962, in Tillsonburg. To this union, one son, William Walter Taylor, Jr. was born. They lived a military life around the world before settling in Brookings, SD. Eleanor was a doting military spouse and was fortunate enough to be stationed in Berlin, see the Pope, and travel through Europe. In June of 1967 she became a United States Citizen.
Eleanor was a dedicated Radiologic Technologist at the Brookings Medical Clinic from 1981 to 2005. She was known for her professionalism and compassion in caring for her patients. She worshipped at Pius XII Newman Center in Brookings, SD, where she found solace and community.
In her free time, Eleanor enjoyed being a part of the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary, participating in church committees, solving puzzles, collecting stamps and spoons, bird watching, and tending to her garden. Her greatest blessing was her granddaughter, Lauren Lydia, and she treasured every moment they spent together.
Eleanor is survived by her son, William ‘Bill’ Taylor, Jr. and daughter-in-law Dawn (Waldner) Taylor; granddaughter, Lauren Lydia Taylor; sister, Loreen “Renie” Lefebvre; five sisters-in-law: Marilyn Verhoeve, Billie (Ronald) Wilson, Wanda (Kenny) Peacock, Diane (Stevie) Taylor, and Louise Taylor, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William ‘Bill’ Taylor, Sr.; brother, Hector Verhoeve; sister-in-law, Sandra Verhoeve; brothers-in-law, Donald Taylor and Ben Lefebvre; parents, Maurice and Irene Verhoeve, and mother-in-law, Mozell Holland Taylor Hutchenson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2 at Pius XII Newman Center, Brookings, SD. Visitation will take place from 5:to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 1, at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings, SD.
