Wayne B. Doop, 92, of Brookings, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019.

Memorial Services have been set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brookings.  Memorial Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Wayne B. Doop was born on October 1, 1926, in Bruce, the son of Calvin Omar and Gertrude (Gerdes) Doop.  Wayne received his education in rural school in Brookings County.  He was employed with the Rural Electric Association.

Wayne was united in marriage to Caroline Berwald on June 30, 1953, in Watertown. He started working at South Dakota State University in 1955 for the Grounds Department and retired in 1987 as the Grounds Supervisor.

In 1972, he purchased 44 acres and homesteaded it.  He enjoyed raising animals, planting trees and flowers and gardens.  He was blessed to do most of his own building on the farm himself.

He was a member of Our Saviors Evangelical Lutheran Church.  He loved to build things. He enjoyed fishing and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.

After retirement, his best joy was taking care of his little granddaughter while her mother went to college.

In 2011, they moved off of the farm to the Carriage House in Brookings.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Caroline of 66 years: his children, Daniel Doop of Peever, Dianna Ramon of Brookings, Darla (Jeff) Huffman of Flandreau, Timothy Doop of Sioux Falls, Thomas Doop of Madison; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Dorothy Jacobson and Pauline Enevoldsen both of Brookings and one brother, Richard (Joyce) Doop of Arlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jonathan Wayne; one grandson, Jonathan Daniel; five brothers, Dale, Harley, Roger, Gilmer and Gordon; three sisters, Alice in infancy, Delores and Virginia.
