Area cross country teams took part in a pair of invitationals on Tuesday, as the Estelline/Hendricks Redhawks traveled north to Webster, and Deubrook Area went south to Sioux Falls.

Redhawks, Dolphins compete at cross country meets

Area cross country teams took part in a pair of invitationals on Tuesday, as the Estelline/Hendricks Redhawks traveled north to Webster and Deubrook Area went south to Sioux Falls.

Both the Redhawks and Dolphins next compete in the Deuel Invitational on Monday, Sept. 20.

Estelline/Hendricks

James Valley Christian on Tuesday finished with four runners in the top eight to score 19 points and won the girls varsity race of the Webster Area Invite by one point over Great Plains Lutheran.

Clark/Willow Lake finished a distant third with 50 points, followed by the host Bearcats with 54 points.

Individually, GPL’s Halle Bauer finished first in a time of 19:43.80, just under four seconds ahead of Dakota Hills’ Madison Zirbel who clocked a 19:47.67.

JVC’s Abby Hasart finished third, over a full minute behind the top two finishers, in a time of 21:06.15.

Estelline/Hendricks’ lone two runners, sophomores Sadie Johnson (23:14.59) and Claire Dagel (26:18.94) finished in 12th and 26th place, respectively.

In the boys meet, Tri-State’s Kaleb Foltz broke the 18-minute mark to claim top honors, posting a time of 17:57.88.

Clark/Willow Lake’s Tyler O’Neill crossed in 18:08.46 for second place, while Northwestern’s Lincoln Woodring finished in third in 18:23.25.

Sophomore Mattix Hausman claimed 20th place for Estelline/Hendricks, posting a time of 19:57.58, while teammate and fellow sophomore Camden Hobbs finished 25th in 20:57.69.

Dawson Bury finished 35th for the Redhawks in 22:07.96.

Clark/Willow Lake scored 16 points to win the team title by 18 over Frederick Area who scored 34.

James Valley Christian tallied 60 points to finish third in the team scoring.

In the girls JV race the Redhawks’ Danelyn Greene finished third at 15:56.76 as the lone Estelline/Hendricks participant.

August Dagel finished fifth in the boys JV race in 13:09.07, Cade Hexem placed 14th in 14:15.51, and Kyler Carlson finished 17th in 15:03.43.

In the girls middle school race, the Redhawks’ Jade Callesen finished sixth in 17:10.74, while Jaylee Berwald crossed in 16th in 18:02.15.

A trio of Estelline/Hendricks runners finished in the top six of the boys middle school race.

Cooper Schaefer finished third in 13:23.76, followed by Kyler Marson in fourth in 14:27.64, and Jonathan Moe in sixth in 14:44.00.

Deubrook Area

The host Sioux Falls Christian Chargers boys team won their Charger Invite on Tuesday in Sioux Falls, scoring 13 points to easily outpace Milbank and Sioux Falls Lincoln who scored 45 and 69 points, respectively.

The Chargers’ Isaac Davelaar won the race in 15:57.16, nearly 16 seconds ahead of Milbank’s Nick Batchelor who finished in 16:13.86.

Sioux Falls Christian’s Daniel Colby finished third in 17:04.34.

Deubrook Area had a trio of runners compete.

The Dolphins’ Parker Crooks finished 41st in 19:21.60, while Colton Trooien crossed in 60th place in 20:20.52, and Andrew Trooien finished in 64th in 20:40.69.

In the girls varsity race, Sioux Falls Christian’s 37 points was five clear of Vermillion’s 42 to win the team title. Lennox finished third with 48 points.

The Chargers’ Ellie Maddox won the race in 18:51.03, over 31 seconds ahead of Milbank’s Ashlynn Batchelor who finished in 19:22.96.

Tea Area’s Jaycie Babb finished third in 19:46.84.

Deubrook Area’s Ellie Olsen finished in 13th place in a time of 21:17.51, while teammate Joeve Krier crossed in 66th in 25:32.62.

In the boys JV race, the Dolphins’ Tegan Hansen finished in 18:45.54 to finish 95th as the lone Deubrook Area runner.

Tyrus Schulz finished 32nd in the boys middle school event, clocking a time of 13:35.13. Chance Schoenfeld ran in 50th in 14:12.26.

The Dolphins’ Luna Siddens placed 49th in the girls middle school run with a time of 16:45.27. Teammate Adele Hopfinger came in 53rd in 17:21.95.

Deubrook Area had no runners in the girls JV race.
