BROOKINGS – The Rangers swept Rushmore over the weekend at Larson Ice Center to improve to 3-1 in the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association standings.
Brookings beat the Thunder, 9-0, on Saturday and 6-4 on Sunday morning.
The Rangers play host to Watertown on Saturday in a 12:15 p.m. matchup at LIC.
The Rangers dominated play as they scored four goals in the first, three in the second and two in the third while outshooting Rushmore, 43-9, as Marina Gerstner earned the shutout win in goal.
Jadyn Peterson opened the scoring less than 4 minutes into the game off a Carlie Kruse assist before Montana Myer sandwiched a pair of goals around a Jayda Geraets tally. Kiran Vugteveen set up Myer’s first goal while Kruse and Alexis Schelske assisted on the second. Savannah Barber had the helper on Geraets’ goal.
Myer scored her hat trick goal less than 2 minutes into the second as Janaya Kuehl picked up the assist, and then, Kruse made it 6-0 off a Myer assist. Addi Ramlo scored at the 1:17 mark to send the Rangers into the second intermission with a seven-goal lead as Emma Rice earned the helper.
Ramlo tallied an unassisted goal midway through the third before Brooklyn Roberts netted the puck off a Myer assist for the final margin.

The teams played to a 2-2 tie after trading goals in the first period before the Rangers took control with three goals in the second on the way to the 6-4 win.
Rice scored with 10:05 to play in the first off assists from Kuehl and Roberts, but Lucia Vidas tied the game less than two minutes later off a Kelsey King helper. Jenna Schulte lit the lamp at the 3:22 mark as Rice earned the assist before King netted the puck off a Margaret O’Connor assist to tie the game at 2-2 after one.
Morgan Fullerton’s goal less than 3 minutes into the second gave the Thunder their first lead of the weekend as Angeline Rasby picked up the assist.
From there though, Brookings scored four straight goals that spanned the second and third to go up 6-3.
Roberts sandwiched goals around a Ramlo unassisted short-handed goal to make it 5-3 through two, and then, Myer scored midway through the third off assists from Peterson and Rice. Vugteveen set up Roberts’ first goal and Myer assisted on the second.
Rasby provided for the final margin with 5:38 to play as Adriana Clark and Kaydra Jaragoske earned assists.
Gerstner stopped 14 of the 18 shots she faced to pick up the win in goal.
