McCook Central/Montrose drops Sioux Valley

VOLGA – Jacey Pulse scored 32 points to lead McCook Central/Montrose past Sioux Valley in a Big East Conference girls’ basketball game Thursday night.

The Fighting Cougars led 19-16 after a quarter and pushed the advantage to 39-24 at halftime before holding the Cossacks scoreless in the third to open up a 58-24 cushion.

Ashyn Wobig had 17 points and Madisen Koepsell posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds for MCM (6-1, 3-0), which shot 50 percent from the field (27-of-54).

Sioux Valley’s Reagan Johnson had nine points and Miakken Vincent chipped in with eight.

The Cossacks (2-4, 2-1) take on Sioux Falls Christian in the Hanson Classic on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Corn Palace in Mitchell. The game, originally scheduled for Saturday, was postponed to Monday due to the impending weather.

 Elkton-Lake Benton 33, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 25

ELKTON – Elkton-Lake Benton beat Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 33-25 in a Dakota Valley Conference girls’ basketball matchup Thursday.

The Lady Elks were up 10-7 after a quarter, 18-10 at halftime and 29-16 through three.

Julia Drietz finished with 13 points and four steals for ELB (2-6, 1-4).

Kailyn Drietz added five points, Rachael Krog four and Martina Creixall Font and Brooklyn Nielsen three apiece. Hannah Krog grabbed eight rebounds and Aubrey Wirth corralled six.

For the Raiders (1-9, 0-5), Khloe Tieman had 10 points.

The Dakota Valley Conference Tournament gets underway Tuesday.

 Estelline/Hendricks 35, Arlington 33

ARLINGTON – The Redhawks led 15-6 after a quarter and 25-8 at halftime and then held off the Cardinals for the DVC victory.

Arlington pulled within 29-25 through three.

For EH (6-4, 2-3), Kylie Beare put in a game-high 16 points and came down with seven rebounds.

Sophie Johnson added nine points, Kaylee Johnson seven and Kaylee Faehnrich three.

Hadley Carlson picked up a double-double of 14 points and 14 boards for the Cards (5-5, 2-3).

Makayla Nelson chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds. Kasey Pistulka had six markers.

BOYS

 Harrisburg 67, Brookings 53

HARRISBURG – The Tigers (4-3) beat the Bobcats in the nonconference tilt.

Brookings (1-8) is host to Yankton in the back end of a doubleheader Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

• Arlington 67, Estelline/Hendricks 42

ARLINGTON – The Cardinals beat Estelline/Hendricks 67-42 in a Dakota Valley Conference boys’ basketball game Thursday night.

Arlington (7-1, 4-1) led 43-15 at halftime.

Trey Ramstad and Mason Bunker both scored 14 to lead a balanced attack. Chance Spilde added 10 points and Casey Stegeman nine.

For the Raiders (2-5, 1-3), Dawson Bury had 10 points. Riley Benning and Jacoby Flegel both chipped in with nine markers.

The DVC Tournament begins Monday.

• Madison 58, Flandreau 42

MADISON – The Bulldogs dropped the Fliers in a nonconference matchup.

Madison (6-1) led 17-11 after a quarter, 27-22 at halftime and 37-32 through three.

Tyler Tappe had 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Cody Brown tallied 15 points and eight boards. Carter Bergheim contributed 12 markers.

Flandreau’s Tash Lunday posted a double-double of 25 points and 13 rebounds.

Alex Anderson had 13 points.

Flandreau (5-4) is host to Deuel on Tuesday.
