The Ranger JV went 1-1 over the weekend with a 10-0 shutout of Yankton before falling, 5-0, to undefeated Sioux Falls 1. Brookings is sixth in the SDAHA standings with 12 points, courtesy of a 6-4 record.

Junior Varsity boys split; JV girls shut out Yankton, Watertown

JUNIOR VARSITY BOYS

The Ranger JV went 1-1 over the weekend with a 10-0 shutout of Yankton before falling, 5-0, to undefeated Sioux Falls 1. Brookings is sixth in the SDAHA standings with 12 points, courtesy of a 6-4 record.

• Brookings 10, Yankton 0

The Rangers scored five goals in the first period, and then, tacked on five in the third for the 10-0 final as they outshot Yankton, 61-9.

Noah Ronning opened the scoring off assists from Luc Bouchard and Dylan Park. Trevor Pederson scored back-to-back goals with the helpers going to Jordan Svobodny and Ronning, respectively. Carter Merritt lit the lamp off setups from Jackson Law and Jacob Drew before Bouchard netted the puck off a Nick Jonas assist.

In the third period, Jonas scored off a Drew assist and then, Ronning sandwiched a pair of goals around tallies by Pederson and Bouchard. Merritt set up Ronning and Pederson while Jonas helped Bouchard and Pederson assisted Ronning.

Kaden Gutormson stopped all nine shots he faced for the shutout win.

• Sioux Falls (1) 5, Brookings 0

The Flyers scored three goals in the first, and then, added a power-play goal in the second and another goal in the third for the shutout as they held a 36-12 edge in shots.

Carter Schulz finished with 31 saves in the loss.

JUNIOR VARSITY GIRLS

The Rangers won a pair of road games over the weekend, beating Yankton, 4-0, on Saturday before shutting out the Lakers, 2-0, in Watertown on Sunday.

Brookings leads the league standing by a point – 18-17, over Sioux Falls – with a 9-5 mark.

• Brookings 4, Yankton 0

The Rangers scored single goals in both the first and second periods, and then, tacked on two more in the third as they outshot the Gazelles, 25-12.

Janaya Kuehl tallied an unassisted goal before Addie Ramlo lit the lamp off an assist from Taryn Richter to make it 2-0.

In the third, Kuehl netted her second goal off a Ramlo helper before Jayda Geraets provided for the final margin with an unassisted, power-play goal.

Heidi Merriman stopped all 12 shots she faced for the shutout win.

• Brookings 2, Watertown 0

Despite outshooting the Lakers, 35-14, the Rangers just netted single goals in the first and second periods for the win.

Kuehl netted both goals – in the first off a Savannah Barber setup; and in the second off assists by Ramlo and Shaylea Peterson.

Merriman earned the shutout win with 14 saves.

BANTAM A

Brookings split a pair of league matchups over the weekend as the Rangers lost 4-1 to Siouix Falls 1 before bouncing back with a 6-0 win over Huron.

The Rangers are third in the SDAHA standings with 19 points, courtesy of a 9-1-0-1 mark.

• Sioux Falls 4, Brookings 1

After Breck Hirrschoff lit the lamp less than 3 minutes into the game off a Miles Merhib assist, the Flyers scored three straight goals for a 3-1 lead after one, and then, tacked on a goal in the third for the 4-1 final.

Brookings held a 24-21 edge in shots as Kade Brecher finished with 17 saves in the loss.

• Brookings 6, Huron 0

The Ranger netted two goals in the first; three in the second; and one in the third as they outshot the All-Stars, 85-8.

Merhib opened the scoring off a Jack Merritt assist, and then, Zach Struck made it 2-0 off setups by Isaac Schulte and Trenton Pederson.

In the second, Merritt, Joseph Wu and Hirrschoff lit the lamp as Hirrschoff, Merhib and Wu picked up assists.

Hirrschoff provided for the final margin with a third-period tally off a Pederson helper as Brecher earned the shutout win with eight saves.

BANTAM B

Brookings lost twice to Aberdeen by identical 2-1 scores over the weekend to fall to 1-7 overall.

• Aberdeen 2, Brookings 1

The Rangers led 1-0 after a period as David Brink netted the puck off a Geoffrey Svobodny assist, but the Cougars came back with two goals in the second to pull out the win.

Aberdeen held a 19-18 edge in shots as Addison Ronning finished with 17 saves in the loss.

• Aberdeen 2, Brookings 1

Svobodny lit the lamp with an unassisted tally to stake the Rangers to the early lead, but Aberdeen scored 10 minutes later to tie the game, and then, added a third-period goal for the win.

Brookings outshot the Cougars, 34-18, as Ronning gloved 16 saves in the loss.

14U GIRLS

The Rangers lost three league games over the weekend – 11-3 and 10-0 to Huron, and then, 5-1 to Watertown to drop to 0-11-1-0 on the season.

• Huron 11, Brookings 3

The All-Stars netted four goals in each of the first two periods before the Rangers played even in the third with three goals each.

Jadyn Kuehl lit the lamp off a Miyah Foerster assists before Foerster scored off a Kuehl helper. Kuehl netted her second goal off a Graciana Peterson setup as Huron held a 30-6 edge in shots with Rorii Quam finished with 19 saves in the loss.

• Huron 10, Brookings 0

The All-Stars scored once in the first before adding five second-period goals and four third-period goals as they outshot the Rangers, 50-3, with Heidi Merriman collected 40 saves in the loss.

• Watertown 5, Brookings 1

The Lakers led 2-0 after one and 3-0 through two before Kinzey Grendler lit the lamp with an unassisted tally to open the third-period scoring. Watertown added two more goals for the final margin as the Lakers outshot the Rangers, 26-17, with Quam collecting 21 saves in the loss.

PEEWEE A

The PeeWee A Rangers went 2-0 on the road over the weekend with an 11-3 win over Mitchell and a 10-2 win over Watertown to stay on top of the SDAHA standings with a 10-2 mark.

PEEWEE B

The PeeWee B Rangers dropped a 6-2 decision to Brandon Valley on Sunday at Larson Ice Center to drop to 1-6-1-0 overall.

The Ice Cats led 3-0 after a period and 4-1 through two as Talon Hyde scored off a Gerrit Kass assist for the Rangers.

In the third, Brandon scored twice while Jay Harris added a Ranger goal with the assist going to Hyde.

Brayden Bingham finished with 19 saves in the loss as the Ice Cats held a 25-18 edge in shots.

PEEWEE C

The PeeWee C Rangers dropped a 3-2 overtime game at Yankton on Saturday.

The Rangers got on the scoreboard 30 seconds into play when Andrew Hahn netted an unassisted goal.

Brookings took a two-goal lead midway through the second period on Derrick Eischens’ unassisted tally, but Yankton cut the lead in half heading into the final period.

The Miracle tied the game on a power-play opportunity in the third period, and then, scored the game-winning goal 4 minutes into overtime for the 3-2 win.

Ryder Anderson finished with 27 saves in goal as the Rangers were outshot, 30-7.

SQUIRT B MINOR

The Squirt B Minor Rangers posted a 1-1 mark at Brandon on Sunday, opening with a 4-3 win over Brandon but falling, 12-3, to Sioux Falls.

• Brookings 4, Brandon 3

The Rangers played the host team to a 2-2 draw after a period as Sawyer Triplett and Mason Diers both lit the lamp with unassisted goals.

Max Jensen gave Brookings a 3-2 lead through two with an unassisted tally in the second and then added a goal in the third for the 4-3 final margin. Diers set up the game-winning goal.

Isaac Andal earned the win in net with 17 saves as Brandon held a 20-12 edge in shots.

• Sioux Falls 12, Brookings 3

Sioux Falls led 4-0 after a period, 8-2 through two, en route to the 12-3 win.

Eli Merhib scored both of the Ranger goals in the second period while Max Jensen netted the puck in the third off a Tori Deming assist.

Neil Trygstad finished with 23 saves as Sioux Falls outshot the Rangers, 35-16.
