BROOKINGS – Award-winning composer-pianist-filmmaker Tellef Johnson will make a rare appearance Saturday, Aug. 20, 7:30 pm at the Performing Arts Center’s Founders Recital Hall at SDSU.
A Distinguished Brookings High School alumnus and graduate of the Juilliard School in New York, Johnson’s last Brookings appearance was in 2002 as a guest of the Brookings Chamber Music Society where he performed solo piano works and his own compositions. On Aug. 20, Johnson will perform solo virtuoso piano works by composers from the Romantic and 20th century eras as well as his own works.
He will be joined by Sana Illahe, from Pakistan. She will sing rare classical pieces learned through her rigorous vocal training in the ancient Hindustani-Pakistani tradition and with Johnson will premiere “Raag Gehra,” a work based on a nocturnal- themed poem they wrote together.
Tickets are $10 or adults and $5 for students and will be available at the door.
