Jackrabbit women net 20th victory with defeat of Mastodons

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Ellie Thompson led three players in double figures as the South Dakota State women's basketball team defeated IPFW 76-59 Saturday afternoon Summit League action at the Hillard Gates Sports Center.

With the win, the Jackrabbits improved to 20-7 (11-4). The 20–win season is SDSU's sixth consecutive and 20th overall.

Thompson scored a game-high 20 points for her fourth 20-plus-point game this season.

Madison Guebert registered 15 points and four assists. Clarissa Ober added 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks.

The Jackrabbits shot 54.2 percent from the field, including 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from 3-point range.

Selena Lozada and Peyton Fallis led the Mastodons (5-22, 2-12) with 12 points each.

Ober scored seven points in a 15-4 run to put the Jackrabbits up 18-8 with 2:42 remaining in the first quarter. IPFW scored the final four points to pull within six, 18-12.

The Jackrabbits built a 14-point lead midway through the second quarter, but IPFW used an 11-2 run to cut the lead to five points, 32-27, with 2:03 to play in the half. The Mastodons sank three 3-pointers in the run. Guebert scored South Dakota State's final five points before Zaria Atkins hit a 3-pointer with a second left. The Jacks led 37-30 at halftime.

A 3-pointer by Kerri Young with 8:11 left in the third quarter started a 12-2 run, which included five points from Guebert and finished with an Alexander layup for a 53-35 lead. Young scored four points later in the quarter for a 64-43 lead.

SDSU had its largest lead of the game, 69-45 after Ober sank a pair of free throws with 6:15 to play.

Notes

Kerri Young moved into 20th in school history in career scoring and now has 1,288 career points.

Ober grabbed her 700th career rebound. She now has 706 and ranks 10th in career rebounds.

Guebert sank three 3-pointers to move into third in single-season 3-point field goals (83). She also moved into 10th in single-season scoring for sophomores (412).

Thompson surpassed the 900-point mark for her career. She now has scored 913 career points.
