South Dakota State juniors Derek Hackman and Gus Steiger were honored Thursday as repeat selections to the Summit League Baseball Academic All-League Team.
A native of Johnston, Iowa, Hackman has compiled a perfect 4.0 grade-point average during his collegiate career while majoring in computer science. He has been the Jackrabbits' regular starting catcher each of his three seasons at SDSU.
Steiger, from Minnetonka, Minnesota, was selected for the nine-player squad with a 3.49 GPA in exercise science. He also has been a two-time all-Summit League selection on the field, earning second-team honors as a second baseman as a freshman and first-team recognition as a shortstop in 2019.
The Summit League Baseball Academic All-League Team is determined by a vote among member institutions' sports information directors and faculty athletics representatives. Nominees must have a cumulative GPA of at 3.30 and completed at least one full academic year at their current institution.
