Doris Anderson, 88, of Lake Preston died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Center in De Smet.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Arlington with the Rev. Aaron Olson officiating. Burial is in the North Preston Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lake Preston. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington and preceding services in the church on Tuesday.
Doris Jean Anderson was born to Trygve and Bertha (Wastun) Eidsness on April 20, 1929.
Doris lived her entire life in the Hetland and Lake Preston areas. Her schooling included rural grade school, and she graduated from Hetland High School.
She was baptized and confirmed in the North Preston Lutheran church. She married Albert (Bud) Anderson February 23rd, 1947. Bud and Doris were married for over 70 years, living on the same farm for 52 years. Their marriage was based on mutual support and a deep love for each other.
Doris was proud of her Norwegian heritage. Having no first cousins in the United States she was privileged to visit Norway four times.
She also loved gardening, and completed the Master Gardener program at SDSU when she was in her 70s. Doris was charter member of Calvary Free Lutheran Church of Arlington, an associate member of Calvary Free Lutheran in Mesa Arizona and a member of the Gideon auxiliary at the time of her death. She was always active in church work and especially enjoyed quilting at the church.
Doris is survived by her husband Bud, five children, Rodney (Bonnie), Bruce (Jan), Kay (Ed) Hoffman, Lori (Randy) Reed and David (Dawnette), seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister Inez and a son Dennis.
