ABERDEEN – Clark/Willow Lake toppled Bridgewater-Emery 56-55 and De Smet drilled Viborg/Hurley 70-48 in the semifinals of the Class B State Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Friday night at the Barnett Center.

De Smet, Clark/Willow Lake to battle for Class B championship

ABERDEEN – Clark/Willow Lake toppled Bridgewater-Emery 56-55 and De Smet drilled Viborg/Hurley 70-48 in the semifinals of the Class B State Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Friday night at the Barnett Center.

The third-seeded Cyclones (22-2), last year’s runner-up, and No. 5 Bulldogs (23-2) face off for the title tonight at 8.

CWL beat De Smet 67-45 on Dec. 11 in the second game of the season.

The Bulldogs will be vying for a sweep of the Class B titles this basketball season, as the girls’ team beat Ethan 49-39 in the final last week.

The Huskies (20-5) and Cougars (22-3) – the Nos. 7 and 8 seeds, respectively – play for third at 6 p.m.

Semifinals

 Clark/Willow Lake 56, Bridgewater-Emery 55

Jacob Prouty made a pair of free throws with 28 seconds remaining to break a 52-52 tie and Micah Burke added two more with 12 seconds left to make it 56-52 as the Cyclones advanced to the final for the second year in a row.

Prouty lit up the Barnett Center on semifinal Friday.

The 6-foot-1 senior scored 37 points on 13-of-24 shooting, including a 7-of-11 clip from 3-point range. He added eight rebounds.

CWL shot 45.5 percent (20-of-44) from the field).

Tied at 16 after a quarter, the Cyclones were up 28-26 at halftime and 44-42 through three.

Micah Burke posted a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds. Grayson Florey scored five points and dished out four assists. Stone Burke added two points.

The Huskies’ Sawyer Schultz had a double-double with 25 points and 12 boards.

Jamin Arend added 13 points, four rebounds and five dimes. Carter Dye had eight points and five boards, while Chase Arend contributed seven points.

 De Smet 70, Viborg/Hurley 48

Kalen Garry had a big game as the Bulldogs drubbed the Cougars.

De Smet led 21-17 after a quarter, 34-24 at halftime and 58-37 at the end of three.

Garry scored 27 points and came up with 11 rebounds.

Trevin Holland dropped in 20 points and Rett Osthus added 11.

Viborg/Hurley’s Brodee Sherman had 18 points and seven boards.

Consolation semifinals

 White River 78, Jones County 56

The top-seeded Tigers shot 52.5 percent (31-of-59) from the field and hit 11 3-pointers.

White River led 20-13 after a quarter, 37-27 at halftime and 49-41 through three.

Luke Wells posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards while adding six assists.

Nick Sayler scored a game-high 17 points, and Izaiah Sorace and Tyson Iyotte added 15 apiece.

The Coyotes’ Alec Whitney had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Olson added 14 points and Morgan Feddersen 13.

 Sully Buttes 54, Timber Lake 50

Nick Wittler poured in 38 points as the Chargers held off the Panthers.

Sully Buttes led 17-11 after a quarter and 34-15 at halftime. Timber Lake cut the deficit to 41-35 at the end of three and pulled within a point – 43-42 – with 4:58 to play. Wittler countered with a bucket and a pair of 3-pointers to make it 51-42 with 3:26 remaining.

Wittler was 13-of-24 from the field, including 7-of-13 from long range, and 5-of-6 at the foul line. He grabbed eight boards, came up with three steals and dished out a pair of assists.

Cameron Ogle posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Panthers’ Brayden PayPay (18) and Tucker Kraft (16) combined for 34 points.
