FORT PIERRE – Brookings beat Oahe 6-1 in a South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association girls’ matchup Friday night at the Expo Center.
Savannah Barber opened the scoring with 2 minutes remaining in the first. Kiran Vugteveen was credited with the assist.
Emma Rice lit the lamp with 9 seconds to go in the period. Assists went to Mckenna Geraets and Jadyn Kuehl.
Oahe’s Brylee Kafka cut the deficit in half midway through the second.
Vugteveen answered with 6:44 showing on the clock on assists from Barber and Addison Ramlo.
The Rangers pulled away with three third-period tallies.
Rice lit the lamp again with 10:10 to play. Barber and Geraets assisted.
Taylor Hokenson found the back of the net with 5:28 to go. Vugteveen logged the assist.
Alexis Schelske closed it out with a goal with 3:53 left.
Jadyn Runge made 10 saves to pick up the win.
Capitals goalie Sophia Peschong stopped 31 shots.
Brookings (8-3) is host to Sioux Center on Friday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m.
